Paint "sealants"

What does everybody think of those 5 year paint sealants? I know they don't last half as long as they say they do.....in WNY it's lucky to last 3 months. We're selling a sealant package that at least 10-15% of the customers buy that buy new cars at work. The price is $600 and profit is around $450. I guess here's my theory on why to sell them. There's a certain group of people that will never have you detail their cars. They're looking for the easy way out. They see this and think I don't have to clean my car for 5 years and it's only $600, what a deal. They're looking for someone who offers this type of package, they don't want a detail every couple months. If they don't buy it from you, they'll buy it from someone else. I can knock a full package (sealant, undercoating, fabric, vinyl) off in 2.5 hrs, which makes this quite profitable. My arguement against this is that it's pretty much a scam. If you back the warranty up, I don't think it's that bad, pretty much you're just detailing thier car and putting more stuff back on. The fine print says they have to have everything reapplied every year at an additional cost. The paint "sealant" is usually teflon, which does little if anything to add protection. The fabric protectant doesn't do much to prevent stains, vinyl protectant does something as it beads water. The undercoating works if resprayed once a year where chipping as occured. So, yes, no?

Hey Show. I've seen pics of your work, and your damn good. You are a detailer, not a con man! The type of people you are talking about servicing will be disappointed in the long run (especially when they read the fine print) and they will talk about it. Then even your regular customers will look at you a bit questioning whether they've been conned all along too. Your name and integrity is everything in this business. Don't sacrifice your morals and values for a quick buck. I charge top dollar for my details, and customers are happy to pay it knowing they got a quality job and product. I can sleep at night.
Two questions:

1. Do you want to be renowned as the best (maybe like Anthony Orasco or Clean Dean), or do you want to be like Ziebart?

2. Can you feel good about selling an misleading product (like Teflon) to an unsuspecting client and taking their money that they worked hard for just like you do?

I don't mean to sound condescending, but I see this all the time. I get clients in all the time that spent the money on a "diamond gloss, never wax your car again" type product and they are unhappy with it.

Just my opinion.
