Paint Sealants on Wheels

Did you guys use all of the equipment that they suggested?? Or did you use some of your own stuff?? Like, what sort of squeegee and the 'baby shampoo', whats up w/ that??Can we use different stuff w/o having to buy all their stuff??

Also, did you guys get any of the bulk stuff to apply to custom areas?? If you did, was it hard to cut/shape??

Any other troubleshooting advice??

I used distilled water and isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle for my bulk 3m Scotchcal film. The best squeegee I've found for both Scotchcal and window tint film is the teflon one from Griots. It kind of resembles a body filler spreader. As for cutting the film, its super simple. You'll get the best results cutting it after its applied. Use a new razor knife and cut the film 1.5-2 mils deep then "tear" the excess film off. Basically its like cutting glass.

Good luck

A few days ago I put new wheels on my A3. I picked black to help hide a huge problem with German cars: brake dust. My last wheels were silver and the brown dust plagued my wheels; it?s ugly and it?s hard to clean. (like I need to tell you guys that) Anyway, I have always cleaned my wheels after a wash with a QD spray and accept that they are going to look dirty in a few days. I have always wanted to try a wheel wax but never have. So I thought this might be a good time to see if a product I currently have might help repel brake dust or make them easy to clean. I applied four products. I am going to evaluate them for longevity and effectiveness.

The contestants (from left to right) FW1 Cleaning Wax, Blackfire Wet Diamond, Klasse AIO, Collinite 845. Each was applied directly to the wheel in exactly the same manner, allowed to dry, and wiped off.

My initial observations are that BF is the easiest to apply. BF, Collinite, and Klasse all look the same with negligible differences in shine or over all appearance. The FW1 was required more work to apply and looks just ok.

FW1 (this product was in the trunk when I bought the car, I have no ides where to get it. It's actually the first time I have used it)
(Wheel distributor sent me one silver cap, oops)

I can see from these pics that it is time to clean the wheel wells again.:biggrin:

So now I wait. Next week I will take a few more picks and see if any of them repelled dust more than the other and which one is easier to clean. I am also curious to see which one lasts the longest. When this test is finished I am going to compare to Wheel Wax.

Look forward to see what you think of the sealants. I like DG 501 or FK 1000p on wheels

I am willing to try it. Thanks. I have used Klasse in the past but look to save time on my own car so the wheels get neglected sometimes.
