A few days ago I put new wheels on my A3. I picked black to help hide a huge problem with German cars: brake dust. My last wheels were silver and the brown dust plagued my wheels; it?s ugly and it?s hard to clean. (like I need to tell you guys that) Anyway, I have always cleaned my wheels after a wash with a QD spray and accept that they are going to look dirty in a few days. I have always wanted to try a wheel wax but never have. So I thought this might be a good time to see if a product I currently have might help repel brake dust or make them easy to clean. I applied four products. I am going to evaluate them for longevity and effectiveness.
The contestants (from left to right) FW1 Cleaning Wax, Blackfire Wet Diamond, Klasse AIO, Collinite 845. Each was applied directly to the wheel in exactly the same manner, allowed to dry, and wiped off.
My initial observations are that BF is the easiest to apply. BF, Collinite, and Klasse all look the same with negligible differences in shine or over all appearance. The FW1 was required more work to apply and looks just ok.
FW1 (this product was in the trunk when I bought the car, I have no ides where to get it. It's actually the first time I have used it)
(Wheel distributor sent me one silver cap, oops)
Blackfire
Collinite
Klasse
I can see from these pics that it is time to clean the wheel wells again.:biggrin:
So now I wait. Next week I will take a few more picks and see if any of them repelled dust more than the other and which one is easier to clean. I am also curious to see which one lasts the longest. When this test is finished I am going to compare to Wheel Wax.
