paint sealant and clearcoat

Yes the sealant helps to protect the clear coat.

However i would not pay any dealership to put a sealant on. That is a rip off.

Just because you have a clear coat doesn't mean that your car is protected. It is more durable than the paint itself but yes it still needs to be sealed and cleaned properly. Almost all cars that have been made within the last 10-15 years have 2 stage paint jobs. Any paint sealant or wax will protect the CC for an amount of time. Now if your talking about the dealer installed paint sealant then 1, don't buy it and 2 search for the reasons why (rip-off). So yes it does a lot of good to add a sealant. For protection and looks.

A clear coat is just clear paint. It isn't protecting anything from fading or oxidation. The need for a sealant or wax is just as there for a car with a clear coat as it is for one without. It does more than just add gloss. It is for protection as well.

all i've ever done is clay the hood and then polish it and threw some liquid Gold Class on that. I am gonna order a 7424 tonight and then polish the whole car, then seal it and then wax. I hope it sparkles :D:D

The gold class is does the same thing a paint sealant does which is protect the paint, the gold class wax of course doesnt last as long as some of the paint sealants out there of course.

right...I read on OCDeatails that sealant is like superglue on your finger where wax is like candle wax on your finger.

Bingo! But you must keep in mind there are some "sealants" dont last as long as others, its my opinion that a sealant should last at least 3-4 months with maintence. Some sealants out there cannot even reach the 2 month mark.

Just so you know.... you don't necessarily need to wax after you put a sealant on. It just depends on which sealant you are using and what effect you are going with. And you have to wait 24 hours after the sealant before you wax anyway, of course. I'm just mentioning it in case you didn't already knwo that.

Which sealant are you planning on going with? I wouldn't top a sealant with liquid gold class either. It has some solvents in it that will act almost like a cleaner wax and may remove or weaken the sealant. When topping a sealant with a wax I would suggest you use a paste wax. There are less solvents in a paste wax versus a liquid wax.

I don't have a preference of sealants at the moment. I'm still researching my options on that :D...I had NO idea the liquids had cleaners in them. Very good to know.

The look I'm wanting to achieve (right now) is the 'wet look'. I'm a fan of the dark satin look for tires and the high shine for the body. But I guess that's 99% of us here LOL.

I had read about the 24 hour waiting period but if I was asked to write an essay on that, then i would not have remembered to include that LOL Thanks for bringing that up ;)

A very nice combo would be poorboys
wash
clay
PwC blue PC on 3
2 coats EX 1st coat with PC on 1.5 2nd coat by hand wait 2 hrs between coats
wait 24 hrs 3 coats Natty's blue by hand
assuming your car is a dark color this should give you a deep wet look
