Paint Question

Last night I helped my friend start restoring the paint on his 96 Black Camaro. The car has been outside its whole life and the paint is terrible.

We did 3 passes on the hood using the Propel Orange pad and SSR2.5 and then followed it with an SSR2.5 with polishing pad. While, there is a huge difference, it still doesn't look "fresh". I am begining to think that its the best it is going to be without a wet sand. He also has a tone of tiny 1/2" scratches that seem to be paint just splitting by itself. I don't have any pictures, but has anyone seen this?

It's common in old, neglected paint. It's a failure of the topcoat. Time for new paint. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Also, all the cracks will need to be completely sanded out before spraying new paint. Otherwise they will crack the new finish too.

PC.

Thats what I figured. If it was my car, it is something that would bother me and require a new paint job but it looks pretty good none the less.

The paint doesn't look like anything in that second post though. I've seen cars like that, makes me feel dirty.
