Paint is sooooo bad

My StepDaughter bought a 89 Nissan Sentra.....Dark Silver Gray Metallic. It looks light gray and is as rough as sandpaper. Ever washed, waxed or cleaned, highly unlikely. If I use rubbing compound and then DACP with a wool pad I can get it to a good starting point. I was just wondering if there is a better way to cut through years of abuse. I could use Dawn to wash or Megs Detailing shampoo.........Better chemical cleaners to start? HELP!!!!!!!

I promise to get pics

Start by giving it a good wash with your Meg's shampoo. Follow that up with clay. After claying the entire vehicle inspect the surface again and if needed start with DACP on a polishing pad. Follow that up with #80 or any other good polish you may have. Finally apply your LSP. Have fun on the project.

Ya, wash-clay-evaluate.

I would do a small section starting with the least abrasive product and work your way up. If its bad, try DACP with a polish pad, then DACP with a light cutting pad.

You may have to use DACPx2or x3.

I had a car in very poor condition with a few years of auto bristle wash scratches/ swirls on it. DACP removed all but the deepest scratches with a light cuttng pad-orange LC.

I followed up with a light polish and NXT and it looks very very nice now.
