Hi all, I am looking for a recomendation for a Paint Depth Gauge. I would like ti to work on Ferrous and non, be accurate and not cost the earth.

Suggestions please guys? I am in the UK but happy to import

I find that a lot of people on this forum are not PTG-friendly. So, you might not get the answer that you're looking for. I would buy one if I could afford one to be honest. :)

Thats a shame. I thought with todays two pack paint / clear paint systems a lot of people would be using these.

The last thing anyone would want is to eat through clear if possible, surely these gauges would help?

You would think so, but I'm finding a lot of pros are not using them. Just a rare few it seems. You might want to ask the boys at Detailing World UK for some help. A world for detailers... Good luck. :)

If they weren't so expensive I am sure some of the pro's on here would be using them. I do not think I have seen anyone here eat through CC yet so.

Some of the pros on here do use them.

There's plenty of people here who've burned paint. One of the common admonitions is that if you use a rotary that eventually it's very likely you'll burn through the paint. Every so often Accumulator even posts his story how he accidently burned paint with a PC. When I first got my rotary I burned an edge on an old beater.

I am not a Pro, but more of a weekend enthusiast who details on side for cash. Since I usually use the rotary to buff with, I thought it was important to get a paint thickness gauge to get before and after readings to see where I was from a reference and how much clear or paint I am removing. I got an ETG-2 which does both steel and aluminum for 300.00 used on Ebay. It works great and I would recommend them. It took me several months to find one I wanted and to actually be able to win the auction without having to spend an arm and a leg.
