Paint Correction Question

The project: Personal black '03 Land Rover Discovery, not neglected but used for heavy off road, brush scratches, swirl marks, etc. I've gone over this truck a few times with retail bought swirl removers used with cheap orbital, then a cleaner wax, then spray wax only to get minimal results. Last time was around a year ago. (Pic below)

As I knew there had to be a resource where the pros go, shop, talk shop, etc. I found Autopia a couple months ago. I've been reading, researching, etc. in order to do this myself and correct this beauty as best I can.

I purchased a rotary and considering I'll probably use it once or twice a year I went cheap with a Northern Tool Brand $65.

Feeling a bit nervous armed with a rotary, doing more research and after discovering autogeek I purchased a PC 7424 with pad kit complete with cleaner/conditioner.

I practiced on my wife's '02 Range Rover (pic below) and my mothers '08 Suburban (better results than the Rover because the paint was in better shape to begin with) (only simple swirls, nothing major here) with a combination of Meg's Ultimate Compound applied with Lake Country Orange Pad followed by Meg's #26. applied with Lake Country Red Pad. (Finished with a cheap spray wax because that just what I had.)

The Rover and the Burb turned out great, yet I know I could achieve better results with the overall shine. Both wife and mom are happy customers since it was free and the vehicles look great compared to what I could do before by hand and for the burb, never having that kind of treatment before.

First Question : how to achieve a more brilliant shine on these two vehicles? - after reading today I'm guessing a paste wax applied by hand over what is already finished?

Second Question: What should the prescription be for my real project? After using the combo described above with the PC I'm pretty sure I'll need something more aggressive to tackle the scratches, swirls and other blemishes. My goal is to remove as many scratches, swirls as possible and leave an impressive shine that I can keep up with that is more durable than a wax I'll have to apply every few weeks.

Can I achieve good results with the PC and a more aggressive yellow pad w/a more aggressive swirl remover? Should I use what I have with the orange pad Ultimate Compound combo on the rotary? A different combo all together?

I'm not opposed to a 3 step combo either which may be necessary in this case.

There are so many products and different nomenclature i.e. polish, glaze, swirl remover, etc. I can't read between the lines on the posts sometimes.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice!
