Paging Bill D, Steam Buggy King

Bill,

I was rooting around in my attic the other day and came across a box and found a Steam Buggy. Apparently my Mom gave it to me a few Christmas(s) (what is the plural of Christmas?) ago and I forgot I had it.

Anyway, a search later and it seems you are the only one on the board who has one, or a least has admitted to it.

Can you tell me what it works well on and what it doesn't work well on? I am hoping that it works well in cleaning fabric car seats.

You have mentioned that it works well for some engine detailing, sticker removal and getting the wrinkle out of cloths. Is that it?

Thanks.

Hi Malachi,

I used the Steam Buggy to clean the house too. It has gotten crud out of the corners of my kitchen floor, with the right attachment, has cleaned my mirrors and has eliminated soap scum in the bathroom. With the fabric attachment I've used it to de wrinkle clothes.

There should be another kind of carpet attachment, it has fluffed up the carpet in my car beautifully and when I had the Maxima, it made the fabric seats noticably brighter.

Yep, one of my favorite uses is to steam decals off license plates. That does the trick when a blow dryer doesn't work well enough.

It has done a decent job of spot engine cleaning. Say you spill oil during an oil change, use a degreaser and follow up with the steam, will do very well.

What I can say is for automotive cleaning it could take a long time and not totally get off extensive grease, heavy imbedded brake dust and tough stuff like that. For those jobs you'll need an arsenal of solvents, the steam cleaner and a power washer most likely.

Overall, I find the Steam Buggy to be a fairly effective cleaning tool for home and auto:up

I'm surprised by the first review but then again, that might have been a more dirty than average environment where certainly a combination of cleaners and the steamer would be needed. ( I'm starting to sound like a Steam Buggy rep :o) I would say specifically for home cleaning, if you used it once every 2 weeks even, you would get satisfactory results.

For the car, it is a pretty good tool. Try using it in crevices of engine compartments and on spokes of hard to detail wheels and it will do well.

Enjoy using your Steam Buggy :up

Just used it in the engine bay and it worked great. It really gets to those spots that are hard to reach even with a brush or Qtip and no chemicals.

Just thought I would post a pic on my MDX engine bay where I used Ornage Blast and the Steam Buggy.

If you guys keep this up I might have to unpack my DeLonghi steamer :o

That sure looks nice, Malachi.

My late father swore by *his* Steam Buggy. Used it to clean all sorts of stuff. Gave them to his friends- he couldn't imagine people living without one. When he died, his sister (who'd borrowed it a few times) was *so* insistant about wanting it that I gave it to her just to shut her up.

I found a similar one on overstock.com for under $20 shipped!

I use it on interiors where there is built up crud along the vinyl parts of the dash and doors. It works best if you have a melted sucking candy or syrupy soda residue.

I don't use it much. Last time was on an interior of a smoker's car where all the cracks and crevices had like yellow tar residue. I blasted it with steam and followed up with dry cloth, then cleaned with #39 and a soft tooth brush and protected with 303.
