Pad flinged off into dirt

My cutting pad flinged into the dirt, and has little particles of dirt in it. I already tried soaking it in water and aggetating with a toothbrush but that didnt do any good. Just wondering if I can throw it in the washing machine to get it clean, or any other method?
 
It can depend on the brand of the pad. Megs pads are weak in this point and often delaminate. Others are more stable and have absolutely no problems spending a little time in the washing machine. I always wash my pads in the machine.

which pads do you use?
 
Well, I use Swiss-made Riwax and Badertscher pads. I prefer the Riwax pads, because they are finer, more durable and finish fantastically. They are just normal 16.5 × 5 cm pads for rotary/DA use.



I wash them in my little mini-washing machine in a normal cycle. A little liquid detergent or APC (I am using Finish Kare 121 now) - depending on the dirt/residue, and go! I rinse them twice in cold water, then a few times by hand, just to be sure... Then I wring them out and letting them air dry. I store them in Ziploc bags. In two years I had to return only one waffle finishing pad because of delamination.



During polishing I wash my pads in the sink, using a regular soap bar and a 'gentle hand massage'. Then I rinse and wring them out (pretty aggressively - they hold up fine!), or spin them out and continue working.
 
I know the Variable Contact pads from Lake Country are machine washable. I've been washing the same pads in the machine since Oct 2003. I just fill the washer, add laundry detergent (liquid) with a little APC like Orange Blast, and use the 1/2 hour soak setting. After the soak, they agitate through a normal cycle, and do a double rinse. I add a little white vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser to help the soap residue rinse out better. I then hang them up on a 1/2" diameter copper pipe I've run a string through and hang by a clothes hanger. They drip dry very quickly this way, and keep their proper shape.
