P21S with sealant?

Hi all! :wavey

I bought a boot load of Meguair’s products a few months back and have been using them with impressive results. However, I feel that I can get just that bit more from using different products. As the summer is approaching barely over here, I would like to give the car a complete detail, inside and out undercarriage and all.

So far all it has is the Meguair's wash (every week). A couple of weeks back I did the following,

Wash, Clay, Wash, DC #1,2 and two coats of Gold class wax.

Although it does look fairly impressive, and reflective, I feel that it lacks any depth. The car is silver but you can get wet/slick looking silver cars too right?

So I am thinking of buying a few more products to add to my inventory, NXT Wax, P21S Paint Cleaner, P21S wax, more towels etc. However, I know that carnauba wax isn't very long lasting (and the car lives outside) I was wondering if I could put a sealant on top of the P21S to make it last a little longer. :nixweiss

If you could think of better products for silver paint please let me know all ideas are welcome! Sorry about the essay!

Great forum and great members! :bow

It's my understanding that you can put a carnauba on top of a sealant, but not the other way around. It just won't adhere properly.

Yep. Also make sure your carnauba doesn't contain any cleaners, otherwise it will wipe your sealant right off. I think NXT contains cleaners, but P21 wax should be just fine. I like using P21 on top of Klasse twins :up

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too, I don't know if the P21S would be the best route to go down now, because if it can only be applied on top of sealant it will just wash off after time anyway. I'm also not showing the car, but I want something that adds a bit of depth, and I feel carnauba wax is the only stuff that will do that. :(

Just start over. Did you use claybar? Get a good paint cleaner (Klasse AIO) and a synthetic paint sealant. After it cures, put the P21S on top and I'm sure it will look awesome.

Yeah, I clay the car every time wax is going to be applied. I don't have Klasse AIO (yet...) just Meg's DC #1 (Paint Cleaner). I suppose even if the P21S does come off the sealant (looking at Poorboys EX-P), the sealant should keep the paint clean until I apply another coat of P21S anyway. I'll get NXT wax in there somewhere for added pretection from the elements.

I've seen P21S on many cars in this forum, and you're right it does look awesome!

I don't think you can layer P21S. You can layer the sealant though. I think you're gonna be fine rewaxing it with the P21S every few weeks and doing full detail every 6months or so. Depends on how much you use the car.

Just thinking aloud here...., but, notwithstanding what I said originally about not being able to top a carnuaba with a sealant, what about Poorboy's EX, which contains carnauba? I wonder if that product can go on top of a carnuaba  Has anyone tried?

well both Meguiars and Finish Kare claim that their product lines are compatible-meaning that you could do NXT/#26/NXT or other combos and FK 2180/Pink Wax/2180

You can do anything you want to do.... Durability is the real issue that worries some people. Go ahead and experiment. your sealant will last as long as your wax IMO....

I thought the exact same thing! I don't know if P21S is the best choice for me, but I am sure it can be layered for extra depth/durability, so I may just buy a tub anyways.

Any how, thanks again to everyone who's posted!

Much appreciated! :bounce

Thought I'd resurrect this thread because I had my own reasons for contacting Poorboy's today. Here's the text from our email correspondence:

Reply from Poorboy's

Sure , just do a good washing first.

Hope this helps. :)
