P21S Paintwork Cleansing Lotion or 1Z as first step????

Depends on the severity of the defects were talking about. If your car is in pretty good shape and doesn't have a whole lot of issues, then the P21S sounds like a good first step. If were talking about swirls, little bit of oxidation, then the 1z would be better. Any pics of your car or whos car were working on?

You can use 1z followed with P21S for a better chance of making the finish better and more defect free. If it were me, I would do 1z followed with the P21S then finish it off with your favorite LSP (Last Step Product) AR

If you're talking about the A4 you'll find the Audi clear is too hard for even the 1Z MP to do any real marring-removal. And anything milder than that is, IMO a waste of time/effort on that particular paint.

I had some *very* light marring on the trunklid of my S8 from foolishly touching it with cotton (so light others couldn't see it, totaly invisible under most lighting). Using the PC (instead of the rotary) I couldn't remove it with light polishes (I tried several as an experiment), had to resort to 3M PI-III RC (05933) for the first passes. Audi clear (factory-applied Spies Hecker brand paint) is *hard*.

1Z MP *does* leave a great finish, especially on Audi metallics. But if you have problems to correct, start with something stronger. This is one case where you don't have to start super-mild; you'd just be wasting time and effort.

I'd get either the 3M PI-III twins (RC 05933 and MG 05937) or maybe (if your marring isn't bad) 1Z PP and MP. But even the 1Z PP won't remove much marring by PC (no matter how long you work it). In either case, a final polish with 1Z MP will leave it looking great

Audi clear is the blessing *and* the curse- pretty hard to mar, but also hard to fix.

audia4guy,

Please don't crosspost. Your thread in Machine Polishing has been removed (it didn't have any responses yet, so no loss).

Thanks, and welcome to Autopia!

fertzguy - I interpreted the p21s cleansing lotion more as a "cleaner" (like a first step in a detailing process). I guess I'm wrong.

It's both- it does clean, it does contain (mild) abrasives, and it works like a glaze.

"Gloss Enhancing Paintwork Cleaner" is the name, right? That's what it does.

its a chemical cleaner with fillers and very very mild abrasives. its more for removing embedded road grime old nuba was water spots etc

it make swirls look better by filling them not removing them

its a great product prior to the lsp of your choice

i use it before zaino ( after a light z7 wash) but will work with basically anything

I just did my A4 with GEPC. It's my favorite product. Brings out an incredible shine on black. Then I follow with either Poorboys EX, P21s, or when knowing it will be a while till my next wax, some Blitz.

As noted, the clearcoat on Audis is thick and hard. Even DACP doesn't do the trick sometimes. I had some dealer installed swirls and they're just starting to come out after 2 DACP, 2 3m SWR, and several GEPC passes over the past 18 months. Hopefully the next DACP pass in a few months will get the last ones out.

This is interesting. Are most german paints the same? How does BMW Paint compare and what is a good product to remove minor swirls and blemishes on BMW metallic paint.

or something like that. It's the P21s polish you're talking about. The German name doesn't translate all that well into English.

It's great stuff, at least on my Audi black paint. Really brings out the bling bling and is very mild to use. Of course any swirls or other serious issues require something a little more heavy duty.

Nice ride, btw. I'll see if I have some pics anywhere around and post of mine. Maybe once the sun comes out in LA.
