Ozone Generators for Automotive Use

David have you ever considered the DrivePur system? It is much more expensive but has never failed me a single time. Much more reliable than Ozone.

Can you explain more reliable? As in ozone wont get all smells out? I am pretty familiar with drivepur but not so much with ozone capabilities.

I also hear and am curious about claims that ozone can damage some interiors?

Actually I have not. I have heard alot of great reviews on it though. I basically need an Ozone machine for isolated circumstances really. I used to rent one from my detailing products supplier every time I needed one. Always seemed to work really well.

IMO most ozone generators don't produce enough ozone. Be sure to buy something sufficiently potent (sorta like with steamers).

I have an Air-Zone XT-800. Haven't used it inxa vehicle yet though...I'll turn it down to maybe half-strength if I ever do to avoid trashing/oxidizing anything made out of rubber. This thing is pretty potent, kills black mold *DEAD*, and I do mean 100% dead.

I bought an ozone machine several weeks ago. Used it one time on a customers car, and once on a friends. Looks like something that should be in a house(Cherry wood box, 2 slide in cartridges in the back). But it got every stench and heavy smoke smell out. Only thing was, the ozone setting I had it on was no higher than 1.5. I kept it in the car for 2 hours running. Aired it out for another hour. My friend said the other day that the smell hasn't come back.

*BUMP*

Has anyone used the Enerzen Commercial 3500mg Ozone Generator? i'm looking at one at what seems a great price(brand new) and seriously thinking about pulling the trigger .[h=1][/h]

I own that machine. Got it off Amazon.

It had all the requirements people were saying the ozone machines should have IIRC, and I've used it twice with good results. One in a car that had a bottle of wine spilled and it smelled fermented in there. I used it months ago and the owner says it has not come back. It already paid for itself.

yes that's the one i am looking at! sounds great, i don't plan on using it a lot, but i am constantly looking for more tools/products to tackle those jobs where i'll need to "break the glass" (like Ray's wheel detail and the carpro gel).

I'm going to bite the bullet because the price at the moment seems like a steal compared to the regular sale price and other generators of the same caliber.

Thanks!! I'll be PM'ing you asking for details on how to work with this in case i'm having difficulties with it.

Sure thing. One thing to note is that it does not have an on/off switch, just a timer, and it only goes up to 2 hours. So you set the timer before plugging it in, seal everything up and then plug it in. Any time you have to up the time on it you'd have to hold your breath and move it pretty quickly. It is nice though that it doesn't just keep going if you set it up, and it gives the air a chance to dissipate.

I also used it in my apartment to remove whatever the last tenant was cooking up in there :)

Awesome, one of my Monthly clients used to smoke in her truck and i recall her mentioning the smoke odor, so i'm going to try it out on her truck (along with steaming for additional sanitation) and see how it does. Best part is that she's my neighbor and family friend, so i can experiment with her truck if it doesn't work the first time and seeing the vehicle monthly will allow me to follow up on longer term results.

The price point and the reviews look great on that unit. I think I will purchase one myself. Are there any dangers of damaging any interior surfaces by using the machine ?

I did some recon on this potential issue and what i've found is that it could if used for too long. This unit seems to be on the "weaker" side compared to more potent ones available, so i plan on using it for 30 min. after doing a thorough wipe down/steaming session and see what results i get. Also plan on removing all personal items from vehicle's interior according to the info i found on this.

I plan on using it in one of my vehicles for the full 120 minutes of the timer and see if i see any damage in the interior.

Keep us posted on your results. I have recently did a couple of vehicles that were smoked in heavily. Steam cleaning helped, but I really didn't have anything at my disposal potent enough to completely eliminate the smell. This unit looks like it might be just what I need for future jobs where strong odors are involved.

Will update with results within the next week or so. Got a monthly maintenance coming up this Friday and should have my unit by Thu.

The owner bought the car from the dealer and they "removed" the smoke smell but i can smell it every time i service this vehicle . Note that i never offered her any odor removal for this because she is already a smoker and i thought that the smell was from her doing it but i confirmed it was pre-existing(and she does not smoke in her vehicle); she recently asked me if i could do something about it so i'm gonna give this a go.

Yes, that's the one I got and I got about the same price on it.

Migue - just to answer your PM so anyone can read this in the future, I always leave it in the car. It does not need air to generate the ozone, it all comes from the plate in the machine.

Ozone will definitely damage some material(leather, plastic, vinyl, etc) in cars if left in there too long. Some people run the machines for hours and hours, I've never had to go over the two hours on the machine's timer. Give the vehicle a minimum of two hours to air out after running the generator. It will smell a little strange for a while after the treatment, but it goes away quickly.
