Some of my recent details

First belongs to my friends "GF", she got this Outback late last year and had a few tiny surface scratches that needed buffing out and wax applied.

Washed with ONR

Scratches buffed with Meguiar's DACP and a Meguiar's cutting pad

NXT applied with a grey finishing pad

Wheels/tires cleaned with Meguiar's All In One Cleaner (3:1)

Tires dressed with Meguiar's Hyperdressing (3:1)

It started to rain/drizzle about 2 mins after I finished it up, but at least it was protected and scratches were removed.

After (went through 2 #0000 steel wool pads, carbon deposits were caked on, I could have spent another 30-40 mins on this to make it perfect) but it's still tons better than before.

Thanks! I'm on the Mazda3 forum, but I'm rarely on it, I'm on Mazdas247 more often. I clean mine each time I wash my car, really keeps those carbon deposits from forming.

I have the same problem. I didn't spend that much time, but after five minutes I knew I was at diminishing returns.

I am planning on using a dremel abrasive foam type attachment and taping up the good parts then polishing out. I haven't had good luck before with this method (left lots of fine scratches) but it would look better than black gunk.

Yeah, I spent about 10 mins on it and wasn't making any progress, so I gave him a fresh #0000 steel wool pad and told him to attack it with a dremel to get that carbon off of the tip then polish it out.

you know what i found that helps. those copper scouring pads for doing dishes. i swear, with a little care you can clean the tips and avoid too much scratching. then polish to a shine. it has to be the copper pads though, the steel ones don't seem to work right. also keeping the pad and the surface your scouring wet.
