Good Morning.
I'm posting this the day after in a very sore state
. A long day, to say the least. I left the apartment at 6:15am and didn't return until 10:05. The trip was about 1.5 hours each way and I worked for 12 straight hours with a total of maybe 25 minutes in breaks.
I detailed for a client of mine from last year. Marco had me out to challenge myself to do four cars for him. It consisted of 4 exteriors, 3 interiors, and 2 engines (not all pictured). Thinking that I would never finish, I employed Patrick_Holland for half of the day. He arrived a little after lunch and we were able to slightly exceed our goal of finishing at 8pm; we finished at 7:30pm.
The vehicles were located in Queens, NY. From my experiences, these vehicles take the most abuse in the entire country. Even though two were done last year, they had heavy fallout, overspray, tar, etc. In an understatement, we had our work cut out for us.
First up, the Maxima.
You can piece together the subtle mods for yourself, but as far as paintwork, the car was in pretty nice shape. Moderate swirling, but none of it was deep. The horizontals had heavy fallout and rail dust, though. My finals were:
-CG Extreme Wash
-Zaino Z18 Clay
-Hi-Temp Extreme Cut and Optimum Car Polish (2 lines, side-by-side) via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1500 rpm
-Blackfire Ceramiclear Finishing Polish via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1200rpm
-Z6 wipedown
-Zaino Z5 Pro (ZFX'd)
-Z16 on tires
-CG VRT cut 2:1 in wells; full strength on trim
Next was the Durango.
This truck had HEAVY overspray and chewed through almost an entire bar of clay. The swirls were minimal, thank goodness. Finals were:
-CG Extreme Wash
-Meguiar's Aggressive Overspray Clay
-Optimum Car Polish via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1200rpm
-Z6 wipedown
-Zaino Z5 Pro (ZFX'd)
-Z16 on tires
-CG VRT cut 2:1 in wells; full strength on trim
Next, a 240SX (sleeper).
Heavy staining and tar buildup. The car is 14 years old, but not in terrible shape. This detail is pretty much "holding over" the owner until the project is complete. Finals were:
-CG Extreme Wash
-Meguiar's Aggressive Overspray Clay
-Optimum Car Polish/Poorboy's Pro Polish via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1200rpm
-Z6 wipedown
-Zaino Z5 Pro (ZFX'd)
-Z16 on tires
-CG VRT cut 2:1 in wells; full strength on trim
Before
After
Lastly, the main event, a Ford Mustang.
When the owner pulled in, I thought to myself, "this is going to be a longgg day". The car was barely black, but more of a dull grey. Contaminants, swirls, holograms, ferrous oxide, burnt paint, oxidation, you name it. Patrick and I made it happen with this one...
-CG Extreme Wash
-Zaino Z18 Clay
-Hi-Temp Extreme Cut via rotary and wool pad @ 1500 rpm
-Optimum Car Polish via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1200rpm
