OTC clay???

Anyone online this morning, right now?

I am ready to go outside and wash, PwC, ES-P, and Natty the car.
I didn't order clay because didn't think I could do it.

Now I want to try at least on the hood and trunk lid but don't have any.

Can I run to AutoZone or whatever that store is on the corner and use what they have on the shelf?

Or do I skip it this time?

I'm not a pro by all means..new at this myself, but I would get the clay before I wasted any other product on the car if thats what you want to do. I'm getting ready for my first clay job myself and I sure want to do it first from all I've read about clay.

You can pick up some clay magic it is less $$ then meguiars and better then mothers clay. Use light front to back strokes with plenty of lube. If the Claybar bites/grabs at the paint continue to lube and clay the spot until the CB flows in smooth persuit(no grabbing).Just glide the bar over the paint . Don't use it like an eraser as this may cause some marring..
 
Mothers clay is generally the most available, that I've seen, and tends to be viewed favorably. You get the clay, QD (clay lube, but you likely won't use it all before the bar is done), and a small bottle of cleaner wax.
Meguiar's had a version out that wasn't viewed as favorably, but apparently have come out with a new version (also with QD and wax) that is supposed to be better.
Either one will probably work for you.

The megs new clay package sells for $25.00 and im not sure suzanna will need the cleaner wax as she has ordered some items. here in Il and mothers is $16.00,claymagic with lube $10.99. But all are will do the job,which ever is economical for you..
 
I would definitely clay first. You'll be amazed at how much easier and more effective cleaning, polishing, sealing and waxing is after claying.
 
I favor the Mothers as an OTC clay. It seems more user friendly than Clay Magic. I haven't seen the Meg's in stores around here yet though... The clay magic stuff seems as hard as a rock when I used it. Maybe I got some funky bars but I choose Mothers for OTC clay and other clays that I can buy online.
 
I prefer claymagic over Mother's.

I got the opposite experience of budman's, weird, claymagic was fine to knead, on the other hand, that xxxxxxx yellow of mother's........

Anyways, the Mother's comes with a small thing of cleaner wax that apparently cost $6 :\

I wrote a note yesterday afternoon, but I don't see it here now.
Was in a hurry, so probably failed to post it.

Anyway, my store only had the Meg kit.
I read most of your answers after I already used it.
Oops, like as an eraser at some of the red pollen stains.
I used alot of the QD, which I like to remove bug guts and the pollen stains.
Was running out of time, had afternoon theater tickets, so only did the hood, roof and trunk lid.
I didn't see stuff on the clay, but folded it anyway everytime I started a new area.
I was going to bring it inside and analyse it but dropped it when my neighbor said they are watching a snake.
I threw away the clay and continued with a wash, PwC and Ex-P.
Maybe next week-end I can get to the Natty's.

Think I did much damage rubbing with the clay?

At least you did the smart thing and threw it away after dropping it. I have seen people wipe it off and keep on going. You should be all right.
