Orinda Auto Detail - Jet Black Tesla S Opti Coated

Orinda Auto Detail

Opti Coat Pro Certified
Brand new black Tesla S from the factory Halo'd up. Being black and the fact that I know Tesla paint is a little finicky I decided for a 2 step polish and opticoat.

Washed 2x2 method with citrus wash
Decon with Iron-x and wolfs poly clay fine grade
Polished with BF SRC compound/finishing polish.
IPA was being a little tricky on this one because I kept marring up the paint when I was wiping it down. So I try something else that seemed to well. I soaked the car with 100% IPA and agitated it with a wash mit the dried it with compressed air and blotting.
Opti Coat was applied and done!
Not a ton of working pics on this one because customer needed it back at 10am so I had to get the opticoat on it by 8 so it would cure.

After my test spot I noticed the marring from IPA so I dragged it out side. You couldn't see the marring in the sun but it was visible under halogens. I was not willing to let it go though and didn't have time to experiment so I just kept polishing the car.

I did some some very light marring in a few places that you could really only see if you saw the car at certain angles.

Parting shot! Customer was blown away when he saw it. I also scheduled a full PPF kit on this car for next week. I'll go back over the car and fix the little marring I saw on the back quarter then.

Thanks for looking

Very nice man!! Are those 22"s on there or 20"s?

Come on dude coatings are bad for business.... well that's what one talented detailer told me.

Thanks guys! And yeah I use to be against coating cars till I sat down with my team of business coaches and they came up with a price to make it worth while. Sooooo for the right price ill coat a car!

That's why you are shopping for a new car. :bow

way to really scrutinize your work and recognize that the IPA was marring it up

sounds like an excuse to try eraser? I wonder if the same thing would've happened.

i think 1st Tesla detailed??. the paint looks glossy. But i think you should have taken some better pics too

I was using it as well and it was doing the same. Not as bad but still the same and really want the cars perfect if I'm gonna coat them.

i like how you always strive for excellence joe. very nice !
Thanks Steve!

This is the 5th Tesla S I've done and the only one that had finicky paint. The other 4 were cake walks and 2 were Jet black. I was a little confused. Not the first time thats happen to me and I doubt it'll be the last. I'll get some more pics of it when it comes in for PPF I was in pretty big hurry to get that thing done and didn't have a lot of time for pics

I forgot to ask you this yesterday. Was there a reason why the subs are firing up?

Generally, I like to have them facing the rear door for 2 reasons.

1. the shape of the trunk/rear quarter could be utilize as a horn. it could amplify the effect of the bass.

2. Speakers are happier when they are on their sides. energy are not wasted to overcome the effect of gravity which generally equate to higher power handling.

Trial and error lol. I model a few different boxes and I tryed 3 before I landed on that one thats in there. Even with all the sound deading in my liftgate when the subs and port were firing back it rattled like crazy, it was annoying so cpl boxes later I ended up with the one you saw.

Got it. That's right...they are 15s and not 12s. The subs didn't have enough airspace in front of it. The pressure was too much to overcome so everything rattle in the back.

Put in a couple more and open up the liftgate. you now have a new propulsion engine. LOL.

trying to talk my wife into buying one of those. she won't go cuz she knows we'll drive away in one... that ones beautiful in black.
