This car was brought it by an Orinda local to ask me what of I thought of a previous detail he had done earlier in the week. The car didn't look horrible but it did have a haze over covering it. Like a D/A compounding haze. I could knock who ever did this but.... This car had the stereo typical BMW jb scratch and sneeze paint. Very difficult to work with to say the least. My first test spot I did marred the paint BAD and that was with rupes21, mf finishing disc, and BF SRC finishing polish. So after trying a bunch of other combos. I ended up one stepping the whole car with a rotary, red pad, and Black Fire finishing polish. Irony at its best I fixed D/A haze with a rotary! Bet you don't hear people say that too often.
See how it had almost a gray tint to it.
Its hard to see on camera but where the sun hits it. It's like micro swirls dulling the paint out.
Pulled into the wash bay to get my wash on! I guess the other guy didn't do engine bays.
After wash, decon, and strip... Now we see where the paint looks real bad. Water beading was that of freshly waxed car after first spray off. It was flat when I was done revealing much more than first suspected. Not just D/A haze but most the swirls remained in tact. I don't know what it looked like before but customer said he couldn't see a big before and after difference. He was concerned about the haze though.
Goes to show! D/A's ARE NOT fail proof. They do require a skill set!
It's important to do a test spot on a few different places on the car. The customer didn't want perfect on this, just the haze gone. So after trying my combo's...
Rotary at a low RPM was doing work.
After an IPA to make sure I wasn't hiding anything here's a bare naked test spot out in the sun! This was perfect for expectations!
Using a combo of LED stands and hand held LED's to make sure I could see from any angle.
Reflection is already 100x better!
Rump is dialed!
After that went on for a while longer while I still had daylight washed the car to remove polishing oils. I didn't want to touch this thing if I didn't have to so foaming it with APC and very little agitation seemed the way to go. Air dried and out side this is what I ended up with. Looking real good! Not perfect but the customer expectation were for sure in tact
Except here where I completely missed this area. This is why it's really important to check your work. I'll never get everything right on my first go but I ALWAYS check my work and make correction as needed. It's hard to be perfect when along with detailing your answering phones, talking to customers, keeping an eye on your team, giving estimates, ect..... You get the idea
Bare naked paint at this point.
So after noting the few places that needed a little more work. Pulled it back in fixed what needed to be fixed and Black Ice was applied! I left instructions for my guys to take it off in the morning. I had to come see it though so I popped in and took these parting shots.
Thanks for looking
