Hello all.. today I plan to begin ordering my items to detail my personal cars. I have read so many messages on this informative blog that my head is spinning.. lol. I am curious to know what products some of you guys are using in your personal garages to maintain your vehicles. I would be interested in your suggestions for purchasing the below items. Which product/brands should I be using:

- Foam gun
- shampoo
- bucket - does the type of bucket matter?
- grit guards
- drying towel - most have recommended to me to buy Microfiber Madness
- wash mit
- glass cleaner - I have always used Stoner invisible glass, but not that happy with it
- leather seat cleaner and lotion - leather master seems to be at the top of my list
- vacuum cleaner

any help is always appreciated. thanks.

Here are some of my recommendations:

- shampoo
(My favorite is DG 901. Priced well, cleans great, and has great suds)

- bucket - does the type of bucket matter? (I would get two 5 gallon buckets. One to hold your wash soap and one for rinse)

- grit guards (get 2-one for each bucket)

- drying towel - most have recommended to me to buy Microfiber Madness
(I would get the Cobra Guzzler. Holds a ton of water.)

- wash mit-(I would suggest a grout sponge or a micro fiber mitt)

- glass cleaner - I have always used Stoner invisible glass, but not that happy with it

(There are tons of great ones out there. I really like the new Pinnacle Crystal Vision Glass Cleaner. Very easy to use and no streaks. It also has a rain repellent in it as well. Poorboys has a new Glass Cleaner that I have not tried yet that is supposed to be sun friendly).

- vacuum cleaner (You can get away with a good shop vac. If you want to go higher end I would suggest a Metro Vac and Blo)

Hope it helps.

I will name some of my favorites in these categories.

Foam Gun- Good idea for preventing swirls!

Shampoo- I have several favorites. For regular washing, go with BACKFIRE Wet Diamond Conditioning Shampoo. For wash & wax, I LOVE 1Z Perls

Buckets- Two 5-gallon buckets WITH grit-guards

Glass Cleaner- Detailer's Krystal Vision Aerosol

foam gun - Couldn't be without it
shampoo - Ultima Paint Guard Wash for weekly washes. Killer product and I've tried over a dozen different shampoos. If you calculate the cost per oz, this is ALSO the best buy. For stripping, CG Citrus Wash & Gloss 5 oz to a 3 gallon bucket.
grit guards - essential purchase
drying towels - Guzzler WW 20x40
glass cleaner - all the same, the magic is in the towel. Kimberly Clarke Glass Towel $20 for 6 towels. (16x16 green) Nothing else compares and magically all your glass cleaners work well.
leather seat cleaner - Ultima Interior Shampoo
leather treat - Pinnacle Leather Conditioner- simply fantastic product and you'll love the smell.
dashboard cleaner - 1Z Cockpit Cleaner. restores factory look.

- Foam gun - I have a Gilmore I never use if you had something to trade for it
- shampoo - I love Duragloss or ultima
- bucket - does the type of bucket matter? no Just go to Lowes or Home depot and spend $2.80 each and save your money from ordering one
- grit guards - yea get one for each bucket
- drying towel - most have recommended to me to buy Microfiber Madness
- wash mit - I like the carpro wool mitt but I also am going to get the new Microfiber madness sponge
- glass cleaner - Always been happy with Megs glass cleaner concentrate
- leather seat cleaner and lotion - leather master seems to be at the top of my list
- vacuum cleaner

Thanks to all for the great suggestions. I wanted to wait to view as many responses as possible before buying anything. Today I will go ahead to order some stuff. Im still not set on which foam gun to get yet though. I have pretty much narrowed everything else down.

Here is mine:

Foam Gun: Love it! The 1/4 gallon will be plenty of you.

Shampoo: Optimum Car wash or CG Maxi Suds II

Buckets: Get them at Lowes or HD

Grit Guards: A must! Get two or three. Wash Rinses and wheel bucket. Also take one with you when you get your buckets to make sure they fit.

Drying Towel: I love the Guzzler HD and the Guzzler

Wash Mitt: I use the Microfiber Chenille and its great.

Glass Cleaner: I have DP Krystal Vision glass cleaner. A cheaper option would be Megs Detailer line glass cleaner.

Leather Care: I use Megs Leather cleaner and conditioner

Vacuum: Get a shop vac but nothing big the smaller the better. You can get small one that have a good suction to them.
