Ordering 2006 C6 Coupe

Yes, I know, it's not a Z06 with 505 hp, but I can't swing a $70K car right now. Plus, I really like the removable targa roof on the coupe, and 400 hp is nothing to scoff at. I am still torn between Machine Silver, Monterey Red, and Lemans Blue, all of which are metallic. I am going with black leather inside, chrome wheels outside. I am also going wi the new 6 speed automatic with paddle shifters (though I'd hardly call those little things paddles.) I am also torn on whether or not to get a Z51. In 2005, it was a no brainer because it gave you a performance axle ratio with both transmissions. Now in 2006, the new A6 transmission equipped with the Z51 package doesn't give you a performance axle ratio, just the bigger brakes, stiffer sways, oil/tranny cooler and stickier rubber. I could get the F55 suspension which allows a switch from "Sport" to "Touring" from the cockpit, and also automatically detects road conditions and adjusts pressures in the shocks accordingly. Hmm.....

By the way, this car is replacing my 2004 Z06 which is being bought back through the Lemon Law process.... :wall

I'd get a machine silver Z51...but then again I am kind of partial to machine silver Vettes'. :chuckle:

I think the Machine Silver really shows off the lines of the C6, and I love it on my C5, but I don't know if I want it back to back. I really love the Lemans Blue, I think it looks fantastic, but I'm not sure I want two dark blues (see sig) at the same time :grinno:

My Z has been in the shop numerous times in the last year trying to resolve transmission issues. It simply will not engage first, second, or third gear under any kind of load whatsoever. Reverse is also intermittent, as it often times requires ridiculous amounts of force to physically force the shifter into the reverse gate.

They have done literally everything to fix it, from bleeding the clutch, replacing the shifter assembly, even replacing the entire transmission (all at just 4100 miles on the odometer) all to no avail. The car is stock other than a B&B PRT catback exhaust. It was a great car, when it worked right

I have had it to numerous dealerships, had regional service reps out to look at/drive the car. In the past 60 days, I have had the car in my possession less than 10. It has sat at the dealership all the rest of the time. In my eyes, it is no longer even my car, and I refuse to be left with the hit in value the car has taken.

Good choice! I love the new Corvettes! And the blue is killer!:bigups

The consensus of all the articles I've read about the C6, the Z51 is a must-have option for the sporty driver; well worth the little extra $$. Also, the magnetic suspension I think you're referring to felt almost exactly the same as the Z51 package. Someone told me to save that money and spend it on a C6 roof hoist! This is just what I've heard, I haven't actually driven a C6 yet.:)

Good luck!

The general consensus at the corvetteforum is to at LEAST add the stiffer Z51 swaybars to the F55 (magnetic ride) package. I think I'm just gonna go with the Z51. I think I would regret not getting it later.

Awesome car. I dont think it matters what options you get on it, you're going to enjoy that bad boy. One question though....why not get another M6 car? Because of the trans problems that you had with the Z or just sick of clutchin' it through traffic?

Mike,

I thought the Z was TOP SECRET!?! You may have to take that pic down. :D

The main reason I'm not going with the M6 is because 5 of my last 7 cars have been manual transmission cars and I'm basically just tired of having to shift gears myself. That, and the mess I am going through with my current car has kind of turned me off of the M6 for a while (at least on the Corvette, my GTO is still an M6 car). I'm also curious to see how the new A6 transmission performs. I think it will accelerate quite nicely.

UPDATE -

I have been battling with GM for a couple of months now about having my 2004 Z06 bought back. The regional service rep had verbally committed to buying the car back, but ultimately, the higher powers at GM declined. Even after going through the BBB, and almost to the very top with my case (actually had an arbitrator settle the dispute). It boiled down to an issue with the time frame. It's a crock, but I'm stuck with the car.

I will say that I think it runs better than the standard C6 coupe any day of the week. The LS6 is just flat out responsive and first and second gears in the car are wicked. It will probably be getting an extensive list of upgrades, including full exhaust, an ATI Procharger and tuning, as consolation for being shafted and having to accept the Lemon.

I will say that the transmission issues have FINALLY been resolved (for now) after a new transmission, entire new shift assembly, and replaced synchros (already in the new transmission) all with just a tick over 5000 miles on the car.
