Orange peel

How do you know if your car has it? I have not heard of it till I came here. How would you get rid of it to get to the shiny surface?

If your car is new - it probably has it. Almost all cars now days have it - I have a '05 350Z that has plenty. You can tell by looking at it in bright sunlight - the name is fitting and you'll see why it called orange peel. Unless you are a fanatic about the paint or plan on showing the car you'll probably just live with it. Orange peeled paint still shines when prepped correcly - it just isn't "even".

Does the paint look like the surface of an orange ? Look at it from different angles and under different lights . Bright sunlight will usually tell you. In most cases your surface will still shine only its going to look like an orange :D with highs and lows . Polishing can take out light OP but if its real bad, wetsanding followed by polishing is the fix . In some cases if your OP is down in the base coat :( is all I can say .

Does it look anything like this?

If the answer is yes, then you have orange peel. Bear in mind that the orange peel on my car was very severe. After a lot of wet sanding, it's almost completely gone.
