Orange Peel

I have a Light Platinum CTS that was in a accident a few weeks ago. I just got it out of the shop and washed it and I have noticed that the side that they painted has a Slight Orange Peel affet to the paint. Is this something that I can smooth over (or give the appearance to ) or does it need to be repainted? Not sure if this is the right Forum for this but I thought I give it a shot.

Thanks,
Jeff

Orange peel is common on nearly all paint jobs. Really high end paint jobs can avoid the orange peel, but you are talking about $200,000 cars. the CTS is a nice car, but obviously not nice enough for the painters to wetsand between layers of paint. Since all cars have it, I would suggest that you get used to it. Its not something that can be polished out because it is very likely the paint under the clear coat that has the problem.

:yeah

I really wanted to wetsand my entire NEW Ranger with horrible orange peel but most of it is under the clear. This thing looks like it was painted in a high school shop class. It might make a small improvement, but I determined it was not worth sacrificing that much clear on a daily driver. Like he said, unless you're paying $200k+ for a car, you're going to live with some orange peel.

Thats Right!!!!

Most Insurance co. have a life time guarante on repairs if you have the work done at an approved shop.
If your not happy notify the body shop or your insurance co. Have them fix it. If more people did this then these body shops might stop sending out this sub par work.

Good luck.

I was going to call them today and let them know I want them to reshoot the side of the car. I have been taking some time to ensure I was just not being over critical and I am not. They painted over a piece of hair and some dirt as well that is sticking out of the clear coat. These are small blems but I see them all the time now because I went through it like a million times.

Thanks,
Jeff
