Orange Pads = Overkill?

I was reading up on menzerna SIP and came across a thread where someone burned the paint on a car using a PC, Orange pad, and SSR3....

There were some suggestions saying that he should have used a white pad because orange = paint burn (with a PC?) and other negative consequences.

Now, I am looking into getting Menz SIP and Nano polish, should I be using a white pad and letting the aggresive polish do the work, or should i keep using my orange pad?

this is getting me worried, because I thought that aggressive pad goes with the aggressive polish :help:

Always start with the least aggressive combo. Start with your nano polish and a white pad and if that does not do the job, move up to SIP with the white pad, then orange if all else fails.

It is how you use it and if it is needed at all.

I strongly suggest you get some scrap panels if you haven't already.

Burn the paint intentionally on various scrap panels and see where the limits are. (about)

And you might want to see this, link for part one:

Very helpful information about pads/polish usage too.

I'm sure you find the rest of it from there.

Great Find...just watched all 5 videos...very helpful for someone just starting out...it definatly refreshed my memory on a couple points...:xyxthumbs

It wasnt the Orange pad that burned through. It was his inattentiveness/inexperience and the SSR3. SSR3 is some pretty serious compound, no matter what pad your using.

I use Orange pads on about 90% of my details with no issues, and 100% confidance. You can actually use an Orange pad with fine polishes as well.......

Agreed, abrasives are what really cuts. Some of the newer polishes use abrasives just under the hardness of diamonds.

It's the SSR3, and I'd bet serious money that it was one of the new LC Orange's. They've stepped the stiffness of the pad up significantly, bad enough that I refuse to use them on my rotary anymore.

Yea, thats what I thought (I just used orange pad w/ XMT360 on my car 2 days ago), but this had me confused. I thought SSR3 was like XMT 3/4, but I guess it's a lot more intense.

Thanks for the help guys. And the videos definitely refreshed my memory, good find!
