Hey guys, anyone here use the PC with optimum Polish or compound? I am looking for the following information

-does it dust
-how long is the work-in time
-how much product needs to be used
-what tips or pad combo's used
-swirl-free shine possible
-and overall how did you like it!

Thanks,
Andrew

-does it dust no
-how long is the work-in time Nearly infinite!
-how much product needs to be used I usually place at 12, 3, 6 and 9 positions on the pad.
-what tips or pad combo's used Start at low speed, about 4, for your first pass the spread the product around, and impregnate the pad (green), 2nd pass you can turn up to 5, then final pass at 6, but slow your passes down.
-swirl-free shine possible Depending on the severity of swirls you started with. Its great for light to medium swirls. There is a compound available also for heavier swirls.
-and overall how did you like it! Its like no other polish and takes some getting use to, but it really is an impressive polish. Can be used for very light marring also.

Thanks,
Andrew
Your welcome....

detailbarn: I have used Optimum on black/dark cars in full sun on days of 100*+ on the rotary without a problem. It is truly my go to product for any heavy heat/sun day.

Matt, go to the compound then......Its a little thinner then the polish, but has the same characteristics......being as its thinner you can still go with a light polishing pad as well.....Usually when you go to "compounds" you have to consider stepping up to a firmer pad, to support the product.

Patrick thanks, MattZ28 how long do you mean, 5mins+ per panel? Thanks for all the responses! Anyone experience any haze from the compound?

Andrew

For PC Use:

-For defect removal (swirls, scratches) I think the compound is VERY effective. IMO, the compound is more in line with a SMR. It's no where near Power Gloss or SSR3. I've had good luck with a Meg's burgundy pad, orange power pad, and white polish pad for the real light stuff. The burgundy pad can/will cause some hazing if you work it hard, but FPII cleans it right up.

-Use Optimum Polish for light hazing, or if you want to polish & brighten your finish. IMO, the polish wasn't designed to remove swirls & defects via PC. It works VERY well on the rotary, but just doesn't seem to have enough bite on the PC.

-Both products have a long working time, and do not product dusting.

IMO, Optimum polishes are the best new products for 2005.

I agree - they are my favorite line of polishes overall. My one complaint about them is actually one of my praises too - the working time can be very, very long. You can literally work a panel for 6-8 minutes and try to wipe the polish off and realize you haven't worked it long enough. Really though, it smells terrible, but it works wonderfully. 80% of the cars I touch can be done with just the polish and two pads.

I had some stubborn stuff on the hood of my car and I was working the polish for 10-12 minutes. It's great stuff with a rotary, doesn't dry up and gives a great finish.

Sean thanks for the info , I can't wait to give the compound a try , mine should be here tommorow. Has anyone used these with a cyclo , if what was your result.

Thanks

I've used the compound with the cyclo and it works well. You'll get some hazing from Orange pads, but it cleans up easy with another pass using a polishing pad.

I just used OCP for the first time today with a dewalt443.. wonderful! took care of some moderate swirling :) I love the long working time too, I hate it when polishes dry up on me.

Are you saying use the Opt Compound with a polishing pad after the orange pad. If so which polishing pad the green one?

I just got the compound in today and I did some very quick testing on my practice hood and I will say I do like the lack of dust. Not sure if I like it over Menzerna Power gloss though , seems to be a bit less aggressive but more testing will tell.

Thanks for the info mgm2003.
