Optimum spray wax question

Can you use OPT car wax as a stand alone LSP? Or is it really best used as a topper on top of your existing LSP and as a maintenance wax for the in-between polishing/paint correcting that is done like twice a year? I was wondering if anyone has used it as the only LSP on their car, and how durable it really is.

i've never used it as a stand alone, but i think you can given the fact that they claim 4 mos. protection, ithink if you wanted to let's say use it once a month or after a wash it would be fine.

I have used as stand alone, Over the winter I used it once a month as I was going to polish my wife's car when it warmed up, I thought it worked well. Lost some slickness between washes but you can use it as stand alone but I think that it really stand out as a topper on a sealant

Since Autopia doesnt let me make a thread, I am going to have to hijack this.

What's the difference between Optimum Car Wax and Opti-Seal? They both seem like LSPs but with different application methods

Hey Boston, did you try to make a thread and just get a white screen every time? The same thing happened to me, and toyotaguy helped me out. He said you can't start a thread with the word "car" in the title (for some reason, not sure why). I was trying to ask about Opt. car wax, and it wouldn't let me post. So I substituted "spray" for "car" in my title, and it let me post. Maybe you are having a similar problem?

Yes I was having the same problem. I tried 3 different computers so I thought the forum was broken. Thanks for the info

optimum car wax is a polymer (i think it has carnauba also) spray wax that you can use after you dry the car for quick waxings.

Optiseal is a wipe on walk away sealant which has a bit longer durability than the spray wax, they also give two different looks.

most optimum users do the optiseal and then top that with the spray wax

Both Opti-Seal and OCW can be used as LSP's. But as black pointed out, Optimum recommends that OS be used either as a LSP or as a base for their OCW or their Optimum Instant Detailer. The OS/OCW combo works well for me as it repels dirt and maintains the gloss for a longer time.

i just did this this morning on top of a coat of z2 and a coat of fk1000. i can't put it in words, slick, wet glossy come to mind.

Great to hear that - I plan on getting both FK1000 and OCW and I am looking for that wet glossy look.

you won't be disappointed in th 1000, apply it very thin. i did the whole car with my pc and a blue lc pad, 4", then wiped off with clean mf, very easy on/off. i don't think ocw needs any instruction. let us know how it comes out.

Of course you can use it as a stand alone.

And it's ease of use makes it so easy to apply an extra coat that there is no reason not to have good protection at all times.

On a non-garaged car, in my geographic area, OCW lasts about a week or two. It works fine for a stand alone, though it certainly wouldn't be my first choice.

OCW is a synthetic sealant/wax combo thats why it claims months of protection, i would most certainly use this as a standalone LSP provided 2 coats might be required and application was done with either a PC or you apply and rub on to a haze then buff off with a MF towel slightly lengthening the spray and wipe process so it has more of a chance to grip onto your surface ...

once a month re application may or may not be needed depending on location ...

hope this helps !!

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll keep using it as a maintenance wax to keep the finish looking good. I love the slickness that this wax has, and I'm sold on the product. I was asking this question mainly for friends that are not into detailing like we do, and they want a very quick wash/wax regimen to keep their cars up.

If you use this as a stand-alone product, will it last like the manufacturer says, like 4-5 months, without any touch-ups and ever using it again (or any other wax) during the 4-5 months? I'm not so sure, but this is taken right from their website:

"•Durable ◦1 application lasts up to 5 months"

What are your experiences with durability? Scottwax, how's your durability been? I saw that you wrote that you have had it on as a stand-alone since the fall...

this depends on MANY variables

- climate, cool dry weather is the best but hot overly sunny climates may deteriorate the lifespan of one application

- is the vehicle garage kept, is the vehicle cool most of the time or running hot ?

- the method the wax was applied and how long it was left to bond to the surface before removal, obviously as a spray liquid it is a quicker process than other forms of waxing

- how often you wash the car also affects the durability .

What do you guys mean by "standalone"? It doesnt need to be used with other products?

meaning with proper maintenance, this product is pretty capable of being your only LSP product and do not need to use the spray over top of a wax or sealant because this spray wax has some sealant qualities so it isnt advised to be used with anything else than itself, or if u do use another spray product it must be a sole wax only spray and not as advanced as OCW is ...

i still am waiting to do a full paint polish and then use this product on its own but i believe its a good product to use alone !
