Optimum Protectant Plus vs 303 aerospace

I started applying Souveran this weekend and now have two coats. The look is awesome, and it is easy to apply as well. I, just for the sake of perfection polished w/ 3M SMR before wax. I am tempted to put on several more layers, but was wondering of there is a point where buildup will dull the gloss. Couldn't find an answer in the archives so........

Pcar: Told you you would love it :)

I have only had a maximum of 4 coats of Souveran on a vehicle before. That was on my Black 1992 300ZX. The only thing I noticed was that the black looked deeper and deeper each time. Never noticed any ill or dulling effects.

I'm at 4 layers and counting on my black car. It's hard to say if 4 layers looks better than 3 layers but I can tell the difference between 1 layer and 4 quite distinctly. I used SMR with the PC before the Souveran. The combination has been awesome in shine, reflectivity and hiding the little blems that I see and nobody else does. :) Souveran is a fun wax to use. I'd feel deprived if it could only be used twice a year. It goes on so smoothly while smelling like a tropical cocktail. It buffs out easier than any other wax I've used and after it is buffed off WOW it just pops like crazy. :xyxthumbs

I wish I could try some Souveran out but it is too costly for my taste. It'll also probably take a lot to do my truck.

I'll just have to wait till I can afford to have a garage queen... Guess I'll also need to get a garage.

Can we get pictures? I always like pictures.

Souveran's under $2 a coat, even for trucks (at least at the current excellent pricing from Tacscar). I bet you'd pay $5 to have your truck looking great for a few weeks . . . heck just skip a trip to Starbucks.

I still don't use it, too much money to front for something like that. I tried to convince myself with the $1.50 a coat thing but it didn't work ;).

I'm kinda confused. When you guys layer wax, how long do you wait in between applications. Do you count it as a layer if you wash in between? Thanks

Bill

So the $1.50-$2 a coat didn't convince you. It worked for me a while back and I have no regrets having bought Souveran for $35. No regrets. At about $1 a coat, it has been one of my most enjoyable purchases and experiences. Laters

pcar! finally another 996TT member comes over! what color is your car?

I can't see much benefit after the 2nd or 3rd coat of Souveran. But it is SO satisfying to apply - I mean - it smells good, it feels good, it is so little work to apply, it is so little work to buff, it looks SO great - I just can't stop waxing! Love it, love it, love it. Mine is over a base of Gold Class - seems to be holding up great.

cheers!

Greg, like yours Black/Black. I think I'll put a third coat on today, it just looks almost a blue-black with this stuff, really impressed me.

How is the tire monitor working for you??

the rest don't matter

I put 5 coats of Souveran over 5 coats of Z2. Waited 24 to 48 hours between coats as the instructions say. Souveran does have some polymers in it so I guess it needs some bonding time. I didn't notice any difference after the 2nd or 3rd coat but it is fun to apply. One downside, the car now attracts dust like a big electrostatic magnet. I've heard others say the same thing. I didn't experience this as bad with Z2 alone or Blackfire. I also did the half hood test. One half with Souveran and the other with Z2. With your eyes closed you can tell when your hand crosses from the ultra slick Z2 to the Souveran which almost feels tacky. I love Souveran but after feeling the difference and seeing the problem with dust I don't know if I'll continue to use it.

I had the opposite experience... started with Zaino 2 Porsches ago and just didn't get the results I was looking for or the protection. I live in a rural area with LOTS of dust especially in Summer and the Zaino grabbed it like a sponge. Not sure how the Souveran will do with the dust yet but when I switched back to wax (p21), it seemed to attract less dust, and was less prone to swirling after a couple of careful washes.

Actually I did, I still have two bottles of the stuff. I guess the dust attraction wasn't why I switched, I think seeing a few concours with most all of the cars using a wax got me to try it again for the first time, and I think I get a deeper wet-looking shine with p21 and even more so now with PS. Who knows, maybe my techniques have improved over the years, and it has nothing to do with the Zaino or Carnauba.

BTW can you use Z6 over wax like a QD spray?

Is that because you didn't use it? ;)
JK!

No, because the 1960's way of having to send off a check or money order to buy the stuff always prompted me to buy extra Z's

I just went to TACSCAR to check up on Souveran and see a message, "We are no longer carrying Pinnacle produts."

What's up?

DUST HAPPENS!

(And there ain't much you can do about it.)

I think all this stuff about one product repelling dust better than another is hooey. when I did my Zaino test I had a section of car that had gold class on one side and Z on the other. The car got dusty. I photographed it. There was ZERO difference. There may be a small static charge build-up when you rub the car, since it is insulated by 4 rubber tires. So maybe more rubbing = more static = more dust attraction. But this has got to dissipate/neutralize over a fairly short period of time.

The section of my test that documents the dust issue is HERE

In the past when I used Zaino without ZFX, I had a little bit of a static/dust attraction problem for the first day or two after applying a fresh coat. After that, I was really happy with its dust repelling properties. The car would stay clean for a whole week without a wash.

With ZFX, I don't have any dust problem whatsoever. In fact, one of these days I gotta get around to applying carnauba to half my hood and test if there is a difference in dust build-up after one week.

I just checked autoxtc.com where I purchased Souveran for $49.95 a week ago, and the CMA logo is gone and they no longer offer Pinnacle products. Price-fixing at its finest.

BTW I used Zaino before the accelerator was available. Again, dust-is-dust, wasn't my reason for switching.

Patiently awaiting the attack of the Zainoites
