Optimum Power Clean for Wheels and 3M Ultrafina Questions

I searched both topics and didn't find what i was looking for so I figured I would knock out both in one thread.

I have a Griots RO with 5.5 X 1.25 LC HT pads. I usually use the cyan for 1st step and tang for final. (With Megs 105/205) I have a Black BMW I wanna really knock out the shine on so I am looking to get some of the reds and maybe some Ultrafina, which I have heard good things about to do a burnishing pass.

Autogeek says UF is for rotary only. Can I use it with the RO or is there a better option for jeweling pass with an RO?

Also, I am looking for a strong, safe wheel cleaner that I can buy in bulk and not pay $75+ a gallon for. I have loved all the Optimum products I have used and the Power Clean says it works on wheels. Anyone tried it? Any hazards I need to know about or any experiences with it that were positive? I only polish about 5-6 cars/year plus my own and basically use the proceeds to finance my own car products addiction. So, money is an issue or else I'd just buy the P21s and be done with.

All input is much appreciated!!

Thanks!

From Chatbox - Yes you can, you may need to supply a little extra pressure(depending on the pad you are on) but absolutely.

Also, you should expect a little bit long working time with the polish, as it is meant to work "damp"

and I mean longer(ish) working time with a DA, as it is meant for rotary...nothing says you can't bend the rules and push boundaries with products..

I responded in the chatbox that you are good to go with UF on a DA, just expect a longer working time, and you may need a little pressure(Nothing crazy) behind it. Menz PO85RD is another option for DA polishing, has a predictable consistent work time, compared to UF which can be extended if you wanted by continuing on polishing.

I think OPT PowerClean is EXCELLENT for what you are trying to do. Its very economical and safe on just about everything. I would consider something different though if you need something truly strong for wheels. A myriad of uses for this APC thats safe, so I am comfortable recommending for alot of tasks.

Not only is OPC good for wheels, but I dilute it 3:1 (water/OPC) and use it as a rinseless wheel cleaner during the winter. I am able to spray it on my wheels in the garage, agitate them, and wipe them clean without any residue or streaks left behind. This is a great complement to OCW for those of us washing without a hose on occasion.

OPC [edited to correct typo] is a great routine wheel cleaner. I have a BMW and use it for that - however, it is not strong enough to remove stubborn wheel dust for that I have to resort to proper wheel cleaner or once in a while Wheel Brightener.

I used OPC on wheels, engines, carpets, floor mats, even tough leather stains, all at 3:1 dilution. It is a very versatile APC, more so than most since it is gentle enough to safely clean leather.

You can use Ultrafina with a DA and a polishing pad to remove light defects or a finishing pad to jewel the paint and add depth and richness. However, you won't be able to remove light rotary swirls with it unless you use a rotary.

Thanks for the replies guys!! Is there a different product to replace either one of the ones I mentioned that would do those jobs better? I saw the Menz mentioned which I have also read a lot about. Any more thoughts on that?

Is there a jeweling polish that is made for RO? Stronger wheel cleaner that is safe and cheap? The Power Clean sounds pretty awesome even if I find another wheel cleaner.

I already got a gallon of the wheel brightener. It sitting in my garage ruining another squirt bottle as we speak.:lol

Is there a good wheel cleaner that's not super expensive that maybe has a little more kick? Preferably something I can buy in gallons?

3D's Wheel Cleaner is the strongest non-acidic wheel cleaner I've ever used(and I've tried quite a few). I find it interesting that they recommend not cutting it less than 4 to 1, because at that dilution, it's amazing. $13.99 for a gallon:

Exactly what I was looking for!!:wow:

Thanks! I'll gladly take any other suggestions but this one looks perfect so far!

Any suggestions on a finish/jewleing polish for use with an RO while you're here?

Hmm, sounds like an interesting product. I especially like the helpful, well-written review on their website. :)

Seriously though, have you ever used Brown Royal wheel cleaner and if so how do the two compare? TIA

You know the product is strong when someone writes a review like that. :lol

Seriously though, any degreaser can ruin rims if not used properly. :loco:

Yeah, judging from his review, he doesn't sound like the sharpest tack.

Would the red HT pads be overkill or should I use the tangs? I have some red pads in my cart on Autogeek right now but I won't get them if I don't need em.

Ahhh, I loves me some Autogeek.:biggrin1:
