Optimum Polish on my G35

I have been doing a lot of research and have a few peoples opinion but I want to run it by you guys one last time before I place my order. I plan on using a Makita rotary with some Edge wool pads. This will be my first detail and I have heard/read that OP can be used as a compound and as a finishing polish.

Two things come to mind when I am thinking about this.

>If the OP will be strong enough with a green pad as I don't have major repairs to make just typical swirls. I would then finish with a white wool pad.

>I know G35's have soft paint and with it being my first time I am a little nervous going with the Optimum compound. SuperBee has said the OC is not that aggressive but I just want to get people's thought on just using the OP.

Also it would save me $17 bucks on having to buy both the OC and the OP.

I appreciate all the help!

You might need to step up to a foamed wool pad to get enough cut with OP to remove defects but you can then step down the pad aggressiveness to finish out. Usually, you can finish out hologram free using OP, a black finishing pad and 1000 rpm.

It will really depend on how deep the swirls are. I can remove the marring I get on my fords and honda with OP and a white foam LC pad. It also leaves a good finish. Anything deeper may need more a aggressive aproach. OC is not that aggressive at all, even OHC is mild for a compound. I used OC with purple foamed wool to remove some light RIDS and etching on my Ranger ( first real polishing) OP wasn't enough, and OC took 2-3 passes. I did use OHC with a 5" orange pad on some really bad scratches, it worked.

I would try what you have for pads. If you are going to get OP you may want to order some OC too. I think I seen on Exceldetail has smaller bottles, you can get 8oz of each if your worried about using up 32oz. The Opt polishes go a long ways during a detail. 2-3 pea sized drops for 2'X2'.
