Optimum Poli-Seal vs. 3D Speed (all-in-one comparison)

I've always like the idea of an all in one (mild polishing abrasives w/ LSP protection), especially for single stage paints, and I started using OPS (optimum poli-seal) earlier this year. I just picked up some 3D speed to test against and here is what I found:

Decided to try out my new Flex 3403 lightweight rotary (1st time with any rotary) with LC white pad.

Wanted a quick test on something that would show good results for what I'm after with this type of product so I did half/half on my 7 y/o, never maintained truck toolbox (black powdercoat).

OPS:

Initially looked like less (no) dusting, though slightly harder to cleanup (marginal)

Good durability (~2months, known from previous use on an outdoor only-vehicle)

Good cut (fine polishing) ability for what the product is, pretty good swirl removal on the other vehicle I've used it on that lives outdoors.

Slight chemical smell, not bad at all.

Slight yellowish stainig of white pads, liveable

--Overall, what I wanted initially.

3D Speed:

Slight dusting, but easier wipeup than OPS

Unknown durability so far

Better cut than OPS and finishes just as good

Grape smell (normally I don't like grape smell, think Dimetap, but this was actually ok)

Pink staining of white pads (My biggest complaint about this product)

--Overall I like it better than OPS, though both are great products.

NOTE TAPELINE DOWN THE MIDDLE:

Speed is better overall except for durability. Poliseal is not great in that respect either, but it is better. They are both good one step products for a quick cleanup. Both need to be topped to be durable.

dfoxengr, OPS is supposed to work without any residue. If you experienced residue you had to wipe off, you were using faaar too much.

At first it's a bit difficult to believe you're not dry buffing with OPS, but the feel you get from the pad will tell you the exact action what happens under the pad.

That's the genius in the Optimum system because the OPS can and will absorb the residue of the Polish (= no cleanup), it won't leave its own (= no cleanup), and you can go over it with OCW or OOS (just a quick SOWO or WOWA action). Done.

OPS has a terrible shelf life. I had a bottle completely separate after sitting for a few months, it would not mix back up at all. Boguht another bottle and it did the same thing. I'll def never purchase OPS again. I was very disappointed, as all other Optimum products I have are great.

it wasn't much residue, but I did see some. I think you're right I was using too much because I thought it was dry. I'll have to use it again soon to get it right.

I also noticed my bottle separated, but violent shaking got it mixed back up.

OPS vs. HD Speed.....no comparison.....HD Speed all the way.

Better cut, clean up, and durability in a TON of different enviroments.

Really good on glass too.

what does dfox say?

Well I say that he linked some photos that were log in only.

You should right click the photos and copy image location.

You likening the HD product to Dimetab has me curious.....

Oddly enough I love the smell of grape.  Theres another HD product that

smells just like bubblegum.  Yum Yum

I had the same problem with the 32 oz. bottles, but don't experience it with the 8oz. bottles. Weird.

Used OPS/HD Speed/GPS. Would say GPS is a better substitute with Rupes nowadays. However I am loving the overall ease of use / cut of HD Speed at the moment! Very economical and runs after to Poxy very easily.
