Optimum No Rinse & Shine - How long does it take?

How long does it take you to wash a not too dirty car with ONR (including wheels and tires)?

I use the 2-bucket method with ONR, a couple of sheepskin mitts and 2 or 3 WW MF towels...and it's taking me about an hour.

How about you all?

About 30 minutes if I'm using a new mitt or ultra plush every panel... this includes wheels, wells, wiping down jambs.

If I've only got one or two mitts/ mf's, then I spend a significant time on the wash as I spend about three minutes "rinsing" the wash media. Here I find I take about an hour or so.

it will take 3 or 4 washes to get the hang of it, but after that you will be working faster then with a hose and bucket.

how???? i am taking an hour on cars, and hour and half on large tahoes....thats wash/dry, dressings, wheels, vacuum, windows, dash.....I cant see how to get any faster? tips?

Takes me about an hour with the 2 bucket method, but that includes getting everything ready and the cleanup after. I'm guessing 20 to 30 minutes just to wash.

2 bucket method. one sheepskin and one Pakshak ultra plush towel (for the lower panels).

now i wash 2 panels before i dry with a Pakshak WW.

abt 30 mins just for the wash.

20 to 30 minutes per car using the single bucket method.

Scottwax,

I'm still using QEW. (I have a 64 oz. bottle of the stuff.)

1.) Is QEW almost as good?

2.) How do you avoid marring using the single bucket method, especially on black and dark colors?

By the way it takes me about 30 minutes to do my black Hemi with QEW.

You do realize people are giving times for wash and dry only? No dressings or interior work. To me, an hour to an hour and a half sounds about right if you are doing all that. 30 minutes to wash and dry, 30 minutes to do all that other stuff. But the question was to just wash and dry.

It takes me about 30 minutes using the two bucket method, 2 wash mitts, and atleast 2 drying towels.

Takes me only 8 minutes to run it through a car wash.....KIDDING guys!

I'm still using the conventional method and it takes me 45 to do a full wash and vac on a car and 1 1/2 hours on a SUV. I've gotta try this ONR out and perfect it before winter!

Anyone wanna give up a sample???

Does the 30 minutes include the wheels as well? I use a couple extra MF towels to wash and dry those after I'm done with the paint and that takes at least 10 minutes extra time. The 60 minutes includes the wheel time.

I'll time myself better next time I use ONR.

I do mainly Porsches and small sport cars but on those I can do a ONR wash and vacuum with my helper in about 15 to 20 minutes.

If it's just lil ol me I can do it in about 30 to 45 minutes. Wheels, dress tires, windows, vacuum, door jams. If I am talking on the phone....forget it, I lose where I am and do the same area over and over :chuckle:

I've found having a cart helps some, that way you can wheel your supplies around and not have to go all the way around the car a few times. Mostly helps when you're trying to clay the car at the same time.

1) QEW cleans as well, just doesn't leave the paint as slick.

2) Both QEW and ONR clean fine even when the water looks dirty. Honestly, I've been using it so long I don't think about what I am doing enough to tell you exactly how to avoid marring. I just work smaller areas when the car is dirty and refold/change out the towels more often.

How many microfiber towels do you use? Personally, I only stick to one and fold it twice to have 8 total faces of wiping. I was just curious if you used more than one and if so, how many? I'm thinking I might open it up to 2 or 3 microfiber towels for wiping with ONR to somewhat cut the downtime, if that's possible, using the two bucket method.

I do not use bucket method with ONR, instead I use electric sprayer with the product pre-mixed in distilled water and spray down each panel and wipe with ultra plush micro-fiber with ZERO pressure. A second spray and wipe with medium pressure will be adequate in most instances to finish the wash on that panel. For a very soiled car I will spray down same panel twice and on a third spray dry and buff to a sparkling shine. I've used this bucketless method for four years with huge success. The keys are ultra plush micro-fiber towels and zero pressure on your first wipe, let your towel glide and pick up soils that have been emulsified and encapsuled by ONR. During Rain, you may need 1to 2 more spray and wipe before final dry and buff. Flip your towel that is folded into four parts as you observe soils filling up the fibers.
