Optimiumized CRV - detail & sealed & sun shots by kc

I finally registered my car in California, and received a complete set of shinly new license plates from the good folks at the DMV.

Any ideas on how best to protect license plates?

thats what i do...i put 2 coats of Z2 on mine before i put them on the car....they clean right up now....so now we have....license plates...wheels....glass....all treated like paint........for all the sealants.....:up

On a related note, my car's from license plate mounting system consists of 2 right-angle lower supports that stick out of my car, and 2 holes drilled into the bumper  Anyone have a suggestion as to what can I use as a spacer to keep that nasty metal away from my paint?

For license plates, I wash it with the rest of the car and spray some One Grand Show-Off QD afterwords, and buff with a MF towel.

I might remove the front plate and mount for a cleaner look. I'll check with local laws first...

It is illegal to drive in California without a front license plate. HOWEVER if you do not live in San Francisco or some parts of LA and perhaps other cities, it is not strictly enforced. One trick I have heard (I am in no way encouraging this) is to put the license plate under your floormat along with some screws that are a bit too small. Tell the officer the holes got stripped and offer to let him try. You're just on the way to the hardware store now...

good call btw. I had my jeep for 6 months and the license plate frame already damaged the paint on the bumper in a HUGE way(scratches, chip, all the way thru the primer). That XPEL stuff would work perfect for that problem. I image that since its covered up, it might not matter what you put underneath, just as long as its paint safe.

When I finish, putting on the XPEL on my Jeep, with the leftover material you and dude are welcome to have it...

If you want some space between the bracket and the bumper, perhaps you could use some flat faucet washers as spacers. They are rubber, they are cheap, and depending on how the frame is made should do the job.:D

I like license plate covers, if you can find an uber one with the silicone lining inbetween (to keeep out water) and the backing (so that metal doesn't scratch up against the paint) they're awsome ($$$).

Otherwise use spacers and wax them real well.

When you see a car on the front cover of a magazine, it was chosen because of photo quality, NOT the car. This is not to say that the cover car is not a nice car. All it says is that covers sell magazines and they will pick the most pleasing, eye catching photo, be damned the car. You cannot see the thousands of hours of detail the car has (or lack of) in that photo. There are millions of cover worthy cars photographed but only a few are cover worthy photos

Looks great KC!

One note, I have used OS and sprayed on the panel as you did, however, it spreads thinner and more "even" if you spray the applicator instead of the paint. Just something to consider!

Very nice work KC.

I have used a combo of the two methods. I will give one or two spritz' on the pad to prime, and then a single mist per section onto the paint. Spread evenly with the applicator, and you are done.:hurray:
