OptiCoated BMW 328i

...but that's not the story. Decided to put a layer of OptiCoat on my wife's 328i, which is never garaged and should be a good testimonial for potential OptiCoat customers. This car was polished about 5 months ago and then received two coats of UPGP which was holding up very well. The paint was in nice shape, but I wanted to polish it and get the paint in the best shape that I could before applying the coating.

The process:

Washed with Dawn, then clayed, followed by a second Dawn wash. Was surprised to see how well it was still beading.

Next up was the Meguiar's D300 with the MF pad. This is where I was shocked. never have I seen a compound finish as well as the D300. The clarity of the finish that was achieved was stunning. So pure and clear with such a relatively small amount of effort.

After an IPA wipe down, I went over the surface with D301 and the Meg's MF finishing pad.

Now it was time for the bamboo skewer to get any residue from the nooks and crannies.

One more IPA wipe down and it was finally time for the Opticoat. This went on much like OptiSeal, and much like OptiSeal, I wondered if I was applying enough!

Anyway, the real learning to me here was just how well the new D300/301 work in conjunction with the MF pads.

All the Photos are after shots as the car didn't have any real issues before I began.

Thanks for looking!

Looks great! Can't help but wonder why you used the D301 instead of a finishing polish like 85RD, though... just seems counterproductive to apply a wax when you're just turning around and stripping it back off.

Nice. This is the closest version of blue to my own that Ive seen with OC. Makes want to consider it even more as probably by the end the year Ill be due to have another new LSP. I'm going to get it sooner or later any how but I may now just do *everything* with OC. Thanks for sharing!

I went with the D301 simply as an experiment to see how it worked as a system with the D300. Realizing that the IPA would remove the wax in the D301, I figured that the polish might burnish the paint and give it a bit more shine. I really like 85RD, but honestly the D300 finished so well that it didn't really need anything but an LSP. Really looking forward to trying it on something a bit more challenging.

Understood. I've had D300 finish down LSP ready before as well; it really is quite remarkable.

Looks great - I would love to hear how the Opticoat does on wheels. I am curious if it helps some of the BMW brake dust from sticking so much.

Looks great, how many cc's did you end up using? I used 5 and hopefully it was enough, time will tell.

Thanks. I'd say between 4 & 5 ccs. Didn't seem like enough, but I never think I get enough OptiSeal on either and it always works great. We'll see. Anxious to see just how easy the wheels will be able to clean in the future.

I getting enough on the applicator until I could see it being applied on the paint, what was worrying me was how fast it was flashing, I'd say it disappeared or leveled within 15-30 seconds. From reading some other posts, people have used up to 15cc on a vehicle! If I did that I think I would have gotten drip marks.
