Opti-coat users: Whaddya think?

There's gotta be quite a few peeps that have used Opti-coat now.

1. How did you feel it made the car look as far as gloss/depth/wetness go?

2. Was it really that hard to apply?

3. What method did you use to apply it, hand or spray?

4. If you sprayed it, what equipment did you use, and would you recommend that equipment for future applications?

5. How long ago did you apply it, and how is it holding up?

6. How easily is it cleaned? Specifically, if there's bugs, tar, and even just ordinary every day dirt on it, how easily does it release these contaminants, ie, does it need a mitt, or could you just spray it off with a pressure washer?

7. What determines whether or not Optimum will sell it to you?

I've seen David Fermani's thread on it, and it's got me really intrigued...

Opti-Coat seems to be the preferred WOWA in these parts. The other one people bring up is Z-CS, which you have experience with.

I've got a bottle that I haven't gotten to use yet (SURPRISE) so I can't really chime in other than saying it seems to be the one people like most out of the 3 "big" ones (UPGP, ZCS and Opti-Coat)

Apparently optimum will sell it to you with just a signed waiver now. Justin over on DB is selling them for 10% off with free shipping right now ($95 shipped). You have to email him regarding it as he doesn't sell it right off his webpage (because he needs the waiver signed and returned).

Cool! :2thumbs:

If I could find "An Idiot's Guide to Spraying On Opti-Coat" thread, I'd buy some. But I want the application spelled out step by intricate step, right down to what spray equipment to buy.

I live in the Desert South West now, 130 miles north of Las Vegas. My car is out in the desert sun 24/7, 365. I drive it 130 miles each way to work. It gets hit with sand, bugs, tar constantly, then sits in the Economy lot of McCarran airport for several days before driving it 130 miles back home, where it sits in the driveway. Pretty good conditions for putting opti-coat to the test, but i'm not gonna buy/apply it til I'm darn good and schooled on it's use first.

from the way it looks , opti-coat will be a good coat on truck cars.

is the 95 pack enough for more cars? or just one car?

i think is applied traditional with foam pad. or is what shows in David tread.

Yeah, you can apply it with a foam pad, as David F did, but according to Anthony Orosco, it can also be sprayed on, with the caveat that you'll use more product. Supposedly, you get a nicer (glossier) finish with it if you spray it on.

Man Supe you're looking for the toughest way to get the most gloss. Just put the dang Opti-Coat on via foam and toss on a layer of Royal already. Air-brushing opti coat on? what's next?

Yeah yeah.. i know, but...

I want to test it as the only LSP on the surface of the paint, otherwise I'd be testing whatever is on top of the opti-coat, so it's gotta look goooooood.

The air brushing technique can be used to apply most WOWA sealants. There's a few threads around with the basics on how to do this, but of course I can't find them now.

Just saran wrap your car already. :LOLOL

i applied to my car may 09. used a foam pad to apply it. gloss is good, depth is good and wetness is also pretty good. i polished the car first then ipa wipe down then applied opti-coat. washed weekly with onr. drive approx. 90mi a day x5 in all kinds of weather and road conditions. opti coat is holding up very well. just put another coat of os on the wife truck then it rain the other day and i was able to compare the two, one year opti coat was beading just as nice a three day old coat of os. don't think you would be able to tell the two apart if you didn't now which was which.

air brush is coool , a compressor will be needed.

wonder if the coat will swirl in time when wash , in the test i see was wash by pro , what about beeing wash by regular John at car wash and neglected.....

What DB is that - which website?

Don't know if the new owners of Autopia approve of linking to competing websites.

But detailing can be quite blissful.... ;)

That's what we're looking for, thanks! Did you find it difficult to apply?

My main question left is resistance to swirls. This stuff seems like the real deal though, so I suppose I'll need to polish my car to perfection and then apply it soon :)
