Opti-coat Question....

I am looking for advice to how far will one 20cc tube of Opti-coat go? The reason I ask, is because I am wondering if one will be enough to do two cars? The two cars are my 2006 Mustang Saleen and a 2013 Corvette Grand Sport. I have never used it so any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

both cars should be able to be coated.

Awesome. Thanks for the quick response bud. The Corvette currently has Wolfs Hard Body on it that was done by someone else, but he doesn't like it. He went to WW the dust off of it yesterday and it left a scratch on the trunk lid and he is pretty pissed. So now he wants the Wolfs removed and opti-coated. I figured I would do mine while we were at it. Any advice on how to remove the Hard Body? Do I need to polish it off?

Yes, he would need to polish it off.

If he is upset that the trunk got scratches with Hard Body he will likely be equall upset with the Opti-Coat.

Just keep in mind that none of these coatings are "force fields", ok ?

We dont know how he tried to Waterless Wash his car, but chances are, he had something on his towel, etc.. And he might have been putting too much pressure on it while wiping.
Maybe not enough of the wash on there too..

I have Opti-Guard on my Black Grand Cherokee over a year now and I have been able to keep it pretty darn scratch free. I never do waterless wash and use Optimum's car wash which is very sudsy and lots of liqudity to go with it...

I dont stress out over scratches, but just love how much easier it is to wash the car in the first place with this coating...

I understand its not like an all out protection against everything like we all wish it was. But I probably should re-phrase my previous statement. It left a surface scratch/marring on a fully corrected car that's been driven 3 times and less than 800 miles????

The way he does the WW is with Adams Polishes WW and Adams WW towels with gentle single strokes. I have watched him do it numerous times and this is the first sign of anything like this happening on this car. I always told him I didn't trust those towels though. There is zero nap on them, so it could be from them.

The problem is in the towels.

I absolutely HATE the waterless wash regimen they advocate at Adam's. It doesn't make sense. Why would you use the smallest nap towel (drying waffle weave ones) to remove dirt?

Tell him to use plush towels when doing waterless washes and he will have much better results!

I know right? Seems counterproductive doesn't it? Lol, I have been trying to tell him to use a different towel too! I kept saying, "be careful when you use those waterless towels!" But I don't think it's the right time for I told you so lol. I think he finally got the point and is buying some microfiber madness towels that I recommended. :)

Adams probably thinks they can sell more stuff to fix the marring from their waterless towels lol.

I doubt that's the reason. I like the company, their philosophy, and their customer support, but I disagree with some of their practices. Also I think their prices are sky high. Still, you can get flawless results with their products.

It was a joke bud. ;)

I am not saying that I don't like some of their stuff. Hell, I own just about all their towels. I truly love their VRT and single soft microfiber towel. I also like their QD, WW, and AP cleaner. But I am right there with you on their prices! $50 for a gallon of QD and $45 for a gallon of WW is crazy! A gallon of VRT is $100!

Another thing I always do is really look at all the Microfiber towels I am using, washing and about to use again, before I ever touch a panel with one.

It just takes a sec to look at the surface and make sure there is nothing on there that is a different color - like a speck of black/brown dirt, etc., waiting to get rubbed into your nice finish..

Microfibers are so good at many things including picking up and holding onto everything, right ? Well, good ones, anyway, right ? So it helps to just before you put that down on the car paint, look it over and make sure it didnt grab onto something that doesnt belong there.

Around here, the thing I find the most in my towels is a piece of compost, something brown, since I live in the world of big trees composting continually, all their messes 24 x 7..
Good luck with this !
I am NEVER going to pay prices that high for anyone's product... That is just plain crazy for my needs and business plan.

I agree, but then again, their market is very much not the detailing business crowd, although they do have a few detailers on their forum.

If they were to make a pro line like Meguiars that came in concentrate, I would switch a lot of my stuff to Adam's to be honest.

Roshan, what are your favorite Adam's products?

APC, Car Shampoo, Detail Spray, and SVRT.

Those products are all great in their own way and for what they are designed to do.

The absolute best product that Adam's has that blows away the competition are their sprayers with the foam nozzle. I have not see foam like that before! Their normal sprayers are great too, but they don't blow away the competition.

A waterless wash, done correctly, on the correct surface will work fine and shouldn't scratch any surface. If you are getting scratching on a surface coated with Hard Body, then you are likely to get scratching on any surface.

I believe you are right. I think the towels he was using just happened to have something stuck to it. I got a chance to take a close look at the marring tonight and the spot is about a little over a foot long across the top of the trunk area. It is almost like he drug the towel over that area with one long pass and he didn't know he was scratching it. We are going to wait a few months on his car then re-polish and opti-coat it. In the meantime I get a chance to opti-coat mine. Any tips from the more experienced guys for an opti-coat virgin?
