Opti-Coat 2.0

A customer of mine is interested in a paint coating. I have used the 22ple line of products but don't have experience with any others. Any info you can share about your experiences and/or opinions re: coatings is appreciated. Thanks in advance...

I have opticoat on my car. Its pretty awesome stuff. I think it takes two to three cars to learn how to apply it properly, just like any coating.

Oh and I've shot all purpose cleaner straight at my a month after bonding and it rinsed and beaded the water off like nothing ever happened

I find that the Opti-Coat Pro is much easier to apply than the consumer version. Maybe I've been applying OC 2.0 too thick, but I always ended up having to chase down streaks that wouldn't flash off over 15-20 mins. It could have also been the temperature I was applying it (high 50's, low 60's). OC Pro flashes a lot quicker and is easier to apply in a shorter timeframe, and I find that I have to chase down less high spots.

OC Pro has a shorter working window and cures faster so if you're unfamiliar to the product it may be best to play around with the consumer version first (OC 2.0).

When I first used OC 2.0 I practiced on a set of wheels and did a panel on a car before doing a whole car. After the second wheel I had a good feel for the application.

I think it's easy to apply and I like the fact I don't have to buff anything off after application.

Thanks to all for sharing your experiences. I've been using 22ple for about 6 months now and I believe in the idea of coatings, but I haven't had any of them on a vehicle I've worked on for more then those 6 months so I'm trying to advise customers accordingly. Has anyone done side by side comparisons between any of the new coatings? Thanks again...

I'll be doing a side by side of Opti-Coat, 22ple, and CQuartz Finest on the roof of my blue Legacy sometime soon. I'll be sure to share my experience.

Opti Coat is very easy to use. Simply apply in even strokes and make sure to wipe off any high spots. It really couldn't be easier :D

When someone asks about applying Opti-Coat 2.0 this is 1 or the 2 videos I always have them watch..... it couldn't be easier....:bigups

Todd,

Chris over at Optimum did the other video I recommend. He has some nice tips for applying the product but your video takes the user through the entire process which I feel is key to using this product correctly and successfully.

  1. Surface prep
  2. Finish polishing
  3. Surgical Cleanliness prior to the coating application
  4. Quantity of product used
  5. Complete coverage
  6. Working time
  7. Leveling any high spots that may be present
