Opti-Clean vs ONR

With the introduction of Opti-Clean, I'm wondering what the point of ONR is anymore. Couldn't one just mix Opti-Clean in the same way as ONR to make a no-rinse wash, i.e. 1 oz of Opti-Clean per 2 gallons of water?

I don't know much about the chemical make-up of Opti-Clean but I do know ONR is specifically formulated for rinseless washing and probably has better cleaning power as well.

Dr. G said that the OptiClean was made to function without a substantial amount of water, so they seem to be for specific, "different" purposes. I like that ONR has so many uses, but I trust that Dr. G sees something lacking in just making a spray and wipe from ONR or he wouldn't have made OptiClean. To use a metaphor, the camera in my phone is pretty good, but a dedicated camera will do much more than a multitask product. JMO

Hey as long as were on the subject of ONR, will this product only work at above freezing temps? Just wondering if it is practical to use during winter months when road salt becomes a problem as apposed to Touchless or coin op washes.

Just the opposite Scott, OOC is ONR on steroids.

Yeah, I was basically going to say the same thing.

Opti-Clean has better cleaning ability than ONR, and I have already experienced this myself.

I have always pre-soaked my cars with ONR (using a spray bottle filled with ONR) before applying my wash mitt. The last couple of washes I used Opti-Clean as a pre-soak instead of ONR, then proceeded to wash with ONR. The results have been very good, and it does seem to do a better job of removing dirt/grime this way.

So Opti-Clean is a "more powerful" cleaner than No-Rinse? I ordered some, but havent opened it yet.

I was under the impression it was a ONR with a bit of OCW or Opti-Seal in it to make the car look a but glossier aftre the process. Just a thought, nothing i read.

It is the polymers that encapsulate the dirt and remove it that also add the gloss and slickness to the paint when washing.

Guys, maybe it's just me, and I'm not trying to be argumentative, but, having used both recently in QD mix,

and each one alternately during the course of a day sometimes,

I've come away with these thoughts:

---OOC is slicker and leaves a glossier finish

and

---ONR seemed to be a much better cleaner.

I didn't find OOC to have much bite with regard to cleaners, while ONR has destroyed everything

from Cosmoline (sp?) to adhesive residue.

I also get more hazing/streaking from OOC....but that could probably be fixed by tweaking

the dilution ratio or technique.

Just my observations.............

Right on, I agree with your observations.

I'd assume OOC has more slickness and such because it's marketed as a QD opposed to ONR which is marketed as a rinse-less wash?

OOC is marketed as a waterless wash, not as a QD.

Does Opti Clean make Optimum Instant Detailer and Gloss Enhancer obsolete since it adds a nice shine? Or does OID ad a better gloss to an already clean surface?

This sounds sort of like Optimum's version of Poorboys Spray and Wipe and Spray and Gloss. One cleans and leaves a decent gloss, the other does little cleaning but leave a better gloss if that makes any sense.

for wash i use onr and stay with it , u get more wash from it than o-clean.

the opti-clean i found it a bit harder to remove from windows than onr.

opti-clean may work better on wheels as i try it few times.

opti-clean may have a slightly better cleaning ability than onr. the dilution is different too..

OOC=Waterless wash

ONR=Rinseless wash

OID=QD

A rinseless wash requires polymers for lubrication (ONR). A waterless wash requires much more lubrication (OOC) and therefore harder to remove from glass. Notice that OOC leaves more gloss than ONR because of the added polymers.
