Opinions on Z'ing a dark green Lexus

I am detailing for the first time a dark green lexus with mild paint contamination. I plan on washing with dawn, claying, washing again, then applying Zaino Z1 and Z5 or Z2. My question is which Z should I use at first. The lady wants me to use Zaino now(1 coat) and then in another 3 months apply another coat. Should I use the Z5 now and then Z2 later? She really wants a shiny car. Thanks.:bow

I always liked Z5 on myMom's dark green Accord. Since she has neither the time nor inclination to keep her car perfect. I would keep telling her to put Z5 on it. With its filling properties it would help keep the car nicer longer.

Now she does use nothing but MF towels one her car. She is not as meticulous about maintaining the towels as most of us are. Or more correctly can not be with a clueless Dad(I love him dearly but he spends to much time playing strategy games on the comp and watching Fox news to realise any better, bless him) and a sister(who honestly is a ditz) there to abuse the towels. So she gets very very fine scratches over time.

The pic is right after washing and applying S100 over Zaino. Not exactly what you are doing but a close representation.

HTH(sorry for the long winded answer;))

If that Lexus has mild contamination I hope you are planning a polishing step somewhere to remove it. Zaino will only cover problems, not fix them. All you'll do is seal them in.

My Saab is dark green and all I use is Z5. I've used Z2 and can hardly tell the diff. Here's a pic of my car post Z5 x 3:

Do you find that Z hides the natural beauty of a green car by making it too reflective? If the car is mistaken for black, then maybe it has. Just a thought. I'm thinking of getting green on my next car, and that is what has stirred my curiousity.

I use both Z-2 and Z-5, and as far as reflectiveness, its hard to tell a difference. What I have noticed is that Z-5 is harder to buff off.....

Both products do a great job for "slickness".....

It really depends on the shade. My car's color benefited from the added reflectivity but I would imagine too much reflectivity will mask the richness of the color on some cars.

But I feel my paint looked best with carnauba. It was still glossy and rich but had a depth you lose with Zaino. The main reason I stick with Z is its durability and ease of maintenance.

I have a black Lexus and a dark green Toyota and Zaino makes both look great. I have applied Zaino to several not-new cars, and one new car (the black Lexus). I would suggest the following:

Dawn wash, then use some mild polishing product to remove any oxidized paint and as much of the surface paint marks as possible. Then clay, and wash again to remove the clay.

Now start with Zaino. In the old days, we had to start with Z1, and then either Z2 or Z5, and a second coat could not be applied for another 24 hours. However, you really don't get the shine going until at least 2 or three coats. However, if you get the ZFX additive, it cures instantly and you can apply as many as 3 coats in immediate succession. What I do is mix the ZFX with Z5 (no need for the z1) and apply two coats of that, and then use Z2 for the third coat.

For subsequent applications, you can add one coat and skip the ZFX, or use it and apply 2 or 3 in the same day. As you probably know, this does not take a lot of time and is not hard work, as you don't have to buff.

A coat or two of Zaino every 3 to six months will keep it looking like new.

This summer I am going to start using

S100 Paint Cleaner

S100 Paste wax

From what i've read those two products go great together and from the pics i've seen, the shine on dark cars is amazing!

Gotta make a trip to my local Harley dealership to pick them up.

I just did my dark green metalic Mustang. Nothing less than awesome.... I do find that Z5 tends to darken slightly, especially after 3 layers, but no more than any decent wax. Z2 does not have that darkening effect that I have noticed so if your prep is excellent you really don't need Z5....go straight to Z2.
