Opinions on Business Card

To start, I have been on the forums quite a bit, but have only been trolling around reading and learning from the other pro's on this site. This is something i am very passionate about and am truely interested in, but for now i'm not planning on doing this as my primary source of income, just something for me to do on the side and get some extra pocket money while im going to school and working at my normal job. With that said onto my card.

Please feel free to comment and make suggestions, thats why i am posting this in the first place. Also what do you guys think about the picture? Yes, it is a picture of my car, and i choose to use it because it shows a really good reflection. Should i use a shot of more of the car or is that one good?

I don't have the Email account set up yet, but that wont be a big deal. As for registering the name and obtaining the neccessary insurance, im going to wait on that to see if this even works out for me. My plans to start out are to just stay small and do peoples cars that i know (family and family friends), as well as people that they refer to me anyways. I wanna get my feet a bit more wet before i go all out with this. As time goes on, and i get more and more into it, i will DEFINATELY be getting insurance, but for now i just want to make sure this is going to work before i go through the trouble of registering the name and getting the proper insurance coverage.

And before anyone asks, yes i have already worked on a few cars and i dont plan on jumping on a Ferrari or any other exotic anytime soon. Just regular DD's and the occassional cadillac or bmw here and there. As i get more experience, i'll work my way up.

So please, feel free to be as critical as you want. haha

It's hard for me to see on the screen. I'm guessing that image will be hard to see on a card and you might be better off coming up with a logo that would go there instead.

Is that a 586 area code? Flint?

Danase, you have a PM.

and i was worried about the picture being too small on the card itself as well, and a friend of mine just brought up that same point.

i could try to bust out the creative skills and try to think of a creative logo. i just have no idea where to start!

i re-did my first card because i like this layout a bit more. not a picture of my car, but a picture of a car in the class of cars i will definately be working on (rim from a cobalt ss). what do you guys think of this one? the spacing is a bit off, but thats nothing that isn't a quick fix.

You may also want to ask them about cards that are two-sided. My card are two-sided and it works great and my clients love them because I can keep it simple on the front and put more info. about the business on the back. It wasn't much more of a cost to do this either.

hey bullitt, what kinda info do you have on the back of your card? im using vista print and they allow you to print on the back side if you want, so its something i will definately do.

Just info about what sort of services we offer. "Paint Correction, Pre-Sale Detailing, New Car Detailing, Lease Turn-in etc. etc. Also, anything you might think of putting on a flyer like how you use premium grade products or "Maintaining your cars Value and Appearance". I also have a slogan on the back that's just like the "Got Milk" slogan only it says "Got Dirt" in the same font.

You could even do a calender or something on the back too or an appointment reminder for customers.

That's a great idea Danase. Just like the doctor's office reminds you of your next appointment.

yea im already leaning towards the appointment reminder for the back side of the card. i saw it earlier today on vistaprint and thought it was a great idea, and now you mention it again so im definately going to go with that. Just something nice and simple and not to overdone for now, thats my goal with this first batch of cards. Then if/when things get rolling and i get everythign properly set up, i'll look into remaking the cards again.

eh, i dont know about the calendar on cards, most people have one in their phone, on their wall, or in their planner. i doubt people are going to carry it around with them on a day to day, so I would put more information on the back instead of an appointment calendar. maybe a slogan, website, picture, etc

i have received a couple cards like that in the past, just tossed them out!

IMO the second card looks waaay better. Don't know about the yellow strip though (it just doesn't do it for me). Go to "advanced editing" in VistaPrint, you can view all the different color schemes available and choose your favorite. Just my 2 cents.

Is this your full time biz? If so, spend the money at a site like hostmysite.com and get your own site. 2 reasons are your enabling your potential customers to see a better picture as to what your business has to offer and what it is about, and BIGGEST REASON!!!!! you will look way more professional. Your email would be Daniel@FCD.com or Daniel@FirstClassDetailing.com.... If its your full time business, I would spend the 79 a year for the site, and put up a nice professional page. Look at my site, and you can contact the guy who did mine. His info is at the bottom of my page. He is reasonable, and this will increase your revenue by leaps and bounds.

Best of luck,

Jason

yea i went with a very similar card to the second one i posted. i just changed the picture (to a caddy rim) and color scheme to a royal blue (more of a "first class" color). just took a lot of differnt runs at it but eventually i just came up with an idea and stuck with it until i was happy with the results. i just cant believe it took me like a week to decide on a business card haha. who woulda thought a small little piece of paper could be so time consuming hahaha

thanks jason, but im not really planning on making this a full time thing for now. between school (im a student in an MBA program and its very time consuming) plus im working 35-40 hours a week for my parents too (luckily i work for them and they are flexible so i can take days off here and there to study)

this is just something i am passionate about, just like everyone on this site, and its something i enjoy doing. even though its something that is easy to break a sweat doing, it doesnt really feel like work when im doing it because i just enjoy seeing a car transform in front of my eyes underneath my own hands. theres no better feeling. so for now im just going to get something small going on the side and if things work out, and other things in life call for it, ill pursue it and make things much more legitimate like you said. for now im just takin it one day at a time trying to line a few cars up for the spring time.

There are a bunch of ways you can do a card. Some like myself like clean and simple with the name, logo and slogan on front only and then the back with services or the back with just your contact information. I've seen some with the logo and name on front and website on the back only which is a good idea and also bad. Good is that you can and will NEED a very good site with great info and then leave the website with some questions to be asked and drive the customer to call you and speak to you that way you can pull them in by talking to them. The bad about it is for older people or busy people who aren't going to go home, turn on the PC and go to the website.

There is a million different ways to go with a business card and there are pro's and con's to each way. A week is nothing, it has taken me MONTHS to figure out what I want and I only have it narrowed down to 4 ways and leaving it up to my graphic designer to choose.

Good luck with whichever you choose and post up pictures of the final business card!

One thing I noticed:

You should remove "Because" in "Because your car deserves it".

If you add "because" in there, you're insinuating that someone is asking the question "Why should I use you?" or "Why should I get my car detailed?"

And you don't want that question in their mind!

So just "Your car deserves it" sounds better in my opinion.

Good looking card !
