Opinion on a QD

I was reading a post about tips and tricks and found one that I thought was a great idea. When you get a bird bomb on your car and your away from home use a bottle of QD and a MF towel.

So yeah I think that is a great idea. So I was just wondering what type of QD would be best suited for this purpose?
 
Just about any of them would work. Just remember not to use one with Carnauba in it if you are between layers of sealant. You want to stay away from Carnaubas unless you are done with the sealants and are on to better things. Typically sealants won't bond with carnauba so you could mess up your future layers.



I keep a bottle of Platinum Gloss Enhancing spray in my car with one of my Koala towels from CMA at pretty much all times. I just wrap the bottle with the towel and push it under my drivers seat. I use it all the time. Those bird bombs can ruin your finish. Gotta get em off as soon as you can. "Later" is too far away. I've been known to go out and remove bird bombs when I notice them out of the window in my office. lol People seem to enjoy mocking me for that one...
 
Jngrbrdman, when you say QD's with carnuba, are there any examples that come to your mind?



I have Zaino on the car and use the Z6 or Meg. quick detail, which ever one is closer at the time, for bird bombs. Is this exceptable?
 
Z6 is fine and Meguiar's QD is fine. Just check the lable and make sure that it doesn't say "Contains Carnauba". Pinnacle Crystal Mist is one that is a carnauba. There are a few others too. I did a search for it on another recent thread on QDs. There is a thread out there where a member broke down a couple of the more popular QDs that you can get in stores and listed which ones contained Carnauba. I think it was Don2000g who did it. I'll see if I can find it again for ya. :xyxthumbs
 
Ha ha I would do the same so I can't mock you for that. I have have BF on now. I do have the BF enhancing gloss spray that I use in the winter time after car washes. I was just looking for something cheaper to use for just these occasions.

Try the Meguiar's consumer Quik Detailer. It's under $5 at most places, and you can get it locally. It would work just fine for bird droppings.

I've used their consumer one and it has lots of silicones or something in it that smear and streak the paint. A real PITA. I prefer their #34.



Pro's Wipeout contains Carnauba. Pro's Proactive contains a polymer. I'm don't believe Poorboy's Spray and Wipe contains carnauba.



I don't know what Mother's Instant Detailer has in it but it leave the slickest surface I've seen from any QD'er. I love this stuff!
 
Thanks for the thread Jngrbrdman. Now as the others are saying it seems to have silicone in it. ( Pro or Con )



Will this silicone in the Meg. Quick Detailer have any effect on the layering ability of the Zaino, or weaken it in any way?
 
You know, I've almost come to totally ignore the word "silicone" and the dread that it inspires. I've read some pretty good threads on silicones and silicones in QDs in particular, and I've come to the conclusion that no one uses "bad" silicones anymore, and that as long as the QD is non-carnauba it will work just fine with whatever wax or sealant you want. Some QDs are easier to use than others and some give different end results. It comes down to personal preference and experience almost. You'll find fans as well as enemies of just about every QD out there.



I've used 4 different QDs now, and have only found modest differences between them, such as slight slickness difference, smell, cost, ease of use, etc.



Carnauba QDs: for traditional carnauba type waxes.



Non-carnauba QDs: for everything!
 
I've been using Clearkote's Quikshine for quite some time now. It is great for bird bombs and it leaves the surface so slick that the next bird bomb comes off even easier. No carnuba in it either and you can safely apply and remove it in the direct sun.
 
I'm currently carrying Slick Stuff by The Wax Shop. It leaves a great shine.



At home, I have several varieties/brands.
 
My new personal preference...Eimann Fabrik Clear Pearl. Here's my story...After 12 hours of detailing, I had to sit in stop and go Honolulu traffic (3 mph) for about an hour on the way down to the Exposition Center for the car show. And on top of that, when I got there, the damn car lot attendant made me park under a tree while waiting to go inside and all kinds of bird crap and tree sap fell on my freshly detailed paint..I was livid:mad:. Clear Pearl basically saved me. It removed everything from the paint and actually made it look better than before it left my garage. I was amazed at how well this QD removed contaminants..Great Stuff!!! used it gain after my second coat of Klasse SG and WOW, I was very impressed. It looked as if I had put a carnuba topper over the SG due the carnuba properties of Clear Pearl . Get your hands on some of this stuff if you can :xyxthumbs
 
I have tried probably 90% of the most popular QD's. Scottwax and ejant gave some great advice. I agree with them. I have both products that they mentioned and they are my first choice for birdbombs. I would not use Clear Pearl for bird bombs, the lubricity is not as good as Quik Shine or Poorboys bird sh#t remover. Plus Clear Pearl contains carnauba and attracks too much dust for me. Quik Shine give a great slick surface but does not have that sticky carnauba attraction to dust. Meguiars #34 works well for bird bombs and I really like the smell, it's a good third choice.
