OnStar to allow updating your Facebook while driving.

I think it's stupid. People (most) cannot even drive while paying attention.

I can see it now...

FB: Please say your status...
DRIVER: Driving home
FB: Status updated
DRIVER: Coming to a stop sign and I am going to stop
FB: Status Updated
DRIVER: Just stopped and now I'm driving on Darwin Ave.
FB: Thank you, status updated
DRIVER: Getting a text from my BFF

and on and on and on.....

Then:
DRIVER: Texting on the phone, yelling at the kids, drinking a mocha latte frappe low caff, xtra shot of java blah blah blah, putting on my makeup, driving with my knees.... OH SHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT, I ran a red light and was plowed into by an 18 wheeler and we are all dead.....
FB: Dumb Arse.....

I feel sorry for my kids when they get old enough to drive......

OnStar is a great service why would they do something like this?

Is there money in it for them?

They're trying to compete with Ford's "SYNC" I believe. Stupid if you ask me.

Now on the other hand, OnStar is also working on an app for smart phones that will allow you to lock, unlock, and remote start your car from anywhere you can get a cell signal. THAT is a cool add-on.

Of course part of my reason for thinking the FB stuff is pointless is that I still don't/won't even use FB. :notme:

I think it's Viper alarms that makes an add-on and an app for your remote start so you can do all that as well from your cell phone. I was looking at it a few weeks ago.

DEI (Viper, et al) has had a cellular remote/valet system for years. I used to install some of their security systems and add-ons back in the late 90's-early aughts. Good stuff.

True... but having it straight from the factory in GM vehicles is awesome. Don't have to put aftermarket equipment in to get the functionality. :yay
