ONR as window washer fluid?

Has anyone used ONR as a window washer fluid? What's the dilution? Any problems with settling and/or clogging?

I'm thinking of doing this. Just want to know if anyone has done this and get their experiences.

A gallon of window washer fluid is much cheaper then a gallon of ONR. Plus Diluted ONR would freeze in the cold months.

CRXican,

Cost on ONR works out to about $0.25/oz (using $30/gal as a rough starting point). Even if you mix a gallon at the recommended QD dilution, it's only $1.50 total. If I were going to try ONR as wiper fluid, I'd probably stick closer to the wash dilution, maybe a little more (1 - 2 oz/gal). If you're finding your blue juice for less than $0.50/gal, more power to you.

As for freezing, we're headed into spring, so that shouldn't be an issue for a while. During the warmer months, I use distilled water because the wiper reservoir also feeds my intercooler sprayer setup. During the winter, I switch back to Smurf sweat.

Not being too well versed on current IC technology, Tort, are you spraying outside or inside? It sounds to me like water injection which has been going on with forced induction since WWII...so do you not inject during the winter or do you feed your baby "Smurf sweat"?

EDIT: Sorry about OT...ONR actually sounds like a good idea in the washer reservoir, except I use it so infrequently I'd never have it out by freezing weather.

Noticing from the crud that is left under the cap on my ONR bottle, I wouldn't want to use it as a washer fluid since the tubes that carry the fluid to your nozzles are pretty small and the nozzles have small holes, as well.

Seems easier to just go to Wally World and grab a $0.99 gallon of Supertech fluid.

Setec,

I'm using a simple exterior sprayer. I've been toying with the idea of water injection, too, though, so I thoroughly over-engineered the setup I have now with the idea of someday transitioning to injection. For now I spray straight water during the warmer months. Although the system is active and available in the winter time, I rarely feel the need to use it. It doesn't hurt anything other than a bit of blue stain on the IC, though.

Water injection holds great promise as an octane booster, and a lot of the Impreza/Evo crowd has had luck with it. The biggest stumbling block for me in making the leap is tuning . . . I'm not confident enough to do it myself, and the nearest pro tuner is in KC (about 3 hours from Omaha).

ONR could be interesting as a solution for that. Has anyone tried 1Z Einzsett Kristall Klar Washer Fluid? That stuff mixes at 100:1. Here's the description on their website:

Kristall Klar translates to "Crystal Clear" which is exactly the results you will get with this special washer fluid concentrate. Developed for leading European automotive manufacturers, Kristall Klar is 100 times more concentrated than regular blue washer fluid. Each dose makes 1 gallon (bottle makes 7 gallons) of highly effective washer fluid. Citrus-scented, ammonia-free formula removes oil, grease, silicone, wax, insects, dangerous glare filming and environmental grime from front and rear windshields and plastic headlights in seconds. Eliminates wiper blade rattles and squeaks by utilizing advanced lubricants in its formula which reduce wear and tear. Will not harm chrome, paintwork, rubber or plastic. Does not leave white residue on paintwork. Softeners prevent mineral build-up in washer system for optimum operation. Environmentally friendly formula is biodegradable, phosphate-free, and formalin-free. Can be mixed with einszett winter formula Anti-Frost Washer Concentrate.

Just this past weekend I had the same thought about using ONR as window washer fluid, but washer fluid is so cheap to begin with that I'll probably put my ONR to better use, especially since it's not something I can easily go to the store and grab off the shelf.

At first I wasn't sure what the benefit would be, but then I remembered some people posting that the regular non-freezing formula can remove LSP's. Way to think outside of the box!

This exactly what I was thinking when I posted my first response. But hey if you wanna dump car washing solution down your resevoir, more power to ya!

I go through a gallon of washer fluid about every 18 months. So i'm not constantly going thru the stuff on a regular basis.

And Yes I get it cheap enough, 99 cents at the local dollar store.

Good point truzoom.. That's one of the things that I'm afraid of, clogging the small nozzles.. Just wondering if anyone has tried it since ONR has so many uses and it works well on glasses and in trapping dusts..

It seems to me that if it was prone to clogging anything, we would have heard reports of it clogging sprayer nozzles when used as a QD.

One other general washer fluid question. Can anyone think of an anti-freeze ingredient that would not remove the likes of Aquapel?
