I've been stashing some of my money off to the side for a couple weeks so I could purchase some "newbie" detailing products that aren't OTC. I have about $80 to spend and I was wondering what the ideal products should be. I currently have Black Magic Car Wash, Stoners Invisble Glass, NXT Tech Paste Wax, Meguiars Rim/Tire cleaner, and Meguiars Hot Wheel Spray. I've been using Vroom microfibers and have just been doing the whole wash dry and wax. I drive a 2005 Honda Accord and it has a good amount of marring and swirling. I really can't afford a PC at the time so everything will have to be hand done. A good list of products would help me greatly, of course it has to fit the budget of around $80-100. Also, does anyone have any tips for drying my car? I spend more time drying my car then I do washing and its becoming very frustrating.
 
If you think drying is frustrating, imagine that frustration times 20 and you have hand polishing. :sosad



For drying, the best tip I have learned is for the final rinsedown, take the attachment off the hose so that there is very little water pressure. Rinse down the whole car, and you will notice how tons of water just sheets off. Another good idea is to get a nice waffle weave micridrying towel or two--they absorb a lot more than regular, terry weave microfiber.



What kind of products do you want for your $80-100, other than swirl removing products?? BTW, Meguiar's ScratchX, which is available locally, is widely considered the best swirl remover by hand...but that isn't saying much.



Lastly, if Black Magic Car Wash is anything like the rest of the Black Magic line of products, toss it! I have had some really disappointing experiences with Black Magic products. Proper washing products/techniques can prevent marring in the first place, so I would say take the safe route and get something better (Meg's Gold Class is nice).
 
I'd say keep saving for another few weeks and pick up a PC with some pads and polish. The Sonus swirl buster pad/polish combo looks to be pretty promising, but only time will tell. Should be released next month, that syncs up pretty well with allowing you to save some extra cash.

that should work pretty well. won't really do anything for the swirling, but i think hand polishing is rediculous... just save for a PC, pads, and proper polishes.
