One-Step Polish on a SEVERELY scratched Black GT-R

After I detailed the 1200HP Midnight Purple GT-R, This Black GT-R was next in line. The owner over the phone said that when he pulls his GT-R out in direct sunlight he can see all the scratches and swirl marks and it was driving him crazy! I was expecting it to be pretty bad and upon inspection I was not disappointed.

You can see some holograms.

The car was heavily contaminated, Drying with a towel felt like trying to dry sandpaper!

Polishing Stages


For the polishing stages I used McKee`s 37 Fast Polish on a Orange Lake Country HDO Polishing Pad on a Flex XFE7.


This car was really bad.

50/50 Shot, Look how deep and rich the polished side looks, The scratches and swirl marks make the paint look white/gray.

This was with one buffing cycle (5 Section Passes) Slow to medium arm speed.


Note: First 3 Passes I used heavy pressure, The last 2 passes I let off on pressure and jeweled to a high gloss.

After the polishing was all done, I applied a coat of McKee`s 37 Hi Def Paint Sealant.

This GT-R came a long way, No car nicknamed "Godzilla" should ever look as bad as it did, This is why proper car care is important.


The GT-R basically changed colors after I was done polishing it. The owner was blown away with the before and after shots, And could not believe the dramatic difference.

Nice turn around. For people with poor wash technique, IMO it is pointless to take the car to perfection. A good decon and 1 step is the way to go and then recommend a good spray wax that fills well.

Once again, congrats on ANOTHER excellent GT-R detailing job that showcases your skillset and abilities.
I must also commend and thank you for posting the specific polishing machine AND the methodology of how you used the machine with this pad and polish (IE, number of passed, pressure applied, and movement speeds).

Unfortunately, this methodology can be difficult to duplicate and mimic by a nubie or occasional detailing hobbyist with limited experience (like myself) because it`s something that you have obviously perfected and mastered from your extensive "practice and experience". Getting the machine application pressure, movement speed, and how long to keep applying them is a real skill. I say this because, much like ANY task requiring some degree of "human co-ordination", not everyone can do. Some of it is natural ability and some is just plain repetition and practice until one "gets the hang of it". But at least we have your methodology we can try and practice rather than developing our own methodology by trial-and-error. That`s the beauty of this forum: detailing professionals willing to share their expertise.
