One product per pad question

With each product I use I always use a clean pad. Now I have a question. I ran out of one of my polishes and I bought something new to try. Can I clean my pad and use my new product with the pad that I used with the other poduct or should I pick up a new pad to use with the new product?

Bah, clean it and use it. If I find a polish isnt cutting it, I use the same pad with a more aggressive polish. Now I wouldnt mix glazes and polishes, or Nubas and Polys, theres some things common sense will tell ya to stop short of.....

don't want to thread jack, but on the topic of cleaning, what process do you guys use to clean your pads??



Does soaking the pads have any affect on the backings? I'm getting propel pads btw.

I have found that heat rather than soaking or washing leads to the degradation of the Propel pads, however I have the first version of those pads and the problem may or may not have been corrected.



And to steer it back on topic, I don't even know what pads go with what product after I wash them, I have never had any problems using a pad with different products after washing, and like Patrick said will sometimes mix products of the same type on one pad if one isn't doing what I need it to do.

Exactly. I've never had any problems mixing pads up...and all I do is polish.

Cool thanks for the replys. I figured as long as I'm using something abrasive on a pad I could clean it and use another brand product that is the same type. I have a set of Propel pads that I haven't used yet and I figured that I would wait till my current pads are worn out.

If you have a front loading washer toss them in there they will be fine.



If not, I usually spray them off right away with my power washer or let them soak in my Charlies APC (any apc should do just go light on it) then spray off with pressure washer. I have found the pressure washer to be awsome at quickly cleaning the pads and does not cause damage, at least for me.

If it is a polish, I would wash and use with other polishes. But I don't mix pads for waxing. Waxing/sealant gets its own dedicated pad.

Oh. I didn't know a front-loader was necessary or preferred. Coincidentally, I have a front loader and wash my pads that way all the time, works just fine. Good to know.

Yep the front loaded doesnt have that agitator id to wreck things. Now the only idagitator I have to deal with is my wife

Yep, we just recently got a new front load washer and I put it on delicate spin to wash and they come out great. I usually presoak them in some APC until I'm ready to wash them.

I have washed my pads in my washer but I put it on delicate and on the lightest soil setting. They usually turn out great but this past time I put them in a bucket and washed them by hand and I think it came out just as good if not better, just takes a little more of my time

I don't bother putting mine on delicate, and I use a very strong degreaser for detergent - works great, especially on the Propel pads which are the easiest to clean pads I know of. Nevertheless, with the less airy, closed cell pads, you can certainly do a better job by hand, as these pads are very difficult to flush completely clean.
