One more layer of sealant?

Well, snow is in the forecast for Sunday and Monday night/Tuesday here in Massachusetts and I’m trying to decide whether to give my car an additional application of Menzerna FMJ tomorrow (Saturday). I put on two coats last weekend. I’m not going to have access to a garage tomorrow, so the work would have to be done outdoors, and the conditions are going to be far from ideal: temperature in the high 30s and breezy.

My biggest reason for thinking about putting on coat #3 tomorrow is that there’s no way of knowing when the next good (relatively speaking) chance to apply FMJ (or anything else) will come. (It might be 25 degrees next weekend; then again, it might be 50.)

I’m looking for opinions on whether the benefits of a third layer outweigh the negative of the not-so-good temperature-and-wind situation. (The info on the FMJ bottle doesn’t say anything to the effect that “this product should not be applied when the temperature is below whatever.)

One other question, kind of related: When spring comes and it’s time to deal with a winter’s worth of marring, should you try to remove whatever paint protection remains on your car BEFORE claying and polishing or will the clay and/or polish take it off so quickly that the preliminary step is unnecessary?

Thanks in advance for any offered opinions and info.

In the spring, clay and polish will remove whatever protection is left on your paint. As for putting one last layer of FMJ on, I would be concerned that due to the low temps expected around here this weekend that it may not bond to the car. I know that is a problem with wax not sure about FMJ.

Hey Guy's!

I was born in Quincy & lived there for 34 years before moving here to West Texas 3 years ago. It's in the mid 70's down here! Eat your heart out! LMAO

i would. i have put FMJ on in a 25 degree garage, i had to let it sit, but it still came off like usuall. What i would be woried about is getting dust on teh car as you are applying or removing

To BlkTac05: I had a feeling someone living in a much warmer climate was going to laugh at our weather situation … not that I blame you for laughing. By the way, I work in Quincy (at the Patriot Ledger.)

To DARKSTI: I agree about the wind concern. I’m certainly going to assess how much “stuff seems to be airborne before deciding whether to proceed with the FMJ application. I suspect that it will be a tough call.

I used to work for Kent's Carpetland on the Norwell/Rockland line. I used to drive by "The Ledgah" everyday to & from work. I sure don't miss the Rte. 3 traffic!!
