once you buff out swirl marks, then wax etcc...

Depends on how the car is cared for. One run through an automatic car wash can really mess up a good paint correction.

If it sees harsh winters and isn't garaged, it's going to last a lot less than a car that doesn't see winters and is garaged.

Proper/frequent washing will prolong shine--especially when followed up w/ a quick detailer spray.

Synthetic waxes last longer than carnaubas (4-6 months vs. 1-2 months).

+1 It's all about how careful you are and how OCD you want to be about your cars finish!! In the long run, if you enjoy the time spent taking care of your car, it's all worth it!! Good luck!!

As others said, shine is in the prepwork....if you can keep your paint swirl and oxidation-free, then it will look good for a very long time!

However, most of us end up wanting to try out new products for the hell of it, so then you start polishing your paint for no legitimate reason...and if you fall victim to this addiction, your car tends to look awesome all the time. :D
