? on Claying new car

Just got a new BMW Z4 and I am preparing to wax it. I first applied P21 cleaner to the hood and then tested the surface for smoothness and was astonished at how rough the paint felt. Therefore, went out and got myself a new Clay Magic bar. I had a few questions on using the bar since I haven't used clay in several years?

Is the lubricant that comes with Clay Majic ok or am I better off using a capfull of car wash mixed in a spray bottle filled with water?

Also, the weather today in Dallas is rainy/cold. Is it ok to clay in cooler temps low 40s? Whats happens if I clay in my garage today, but don't get to wash the car/clay residue off until tomorrow, is that OK???

Thanks,

Doug

The lube that comes with the clay is fine. And the temperature doesn't really matter as long as its above freezing. I try not to work on cars if its below 40 degrees out. It just makes for a miserable day. Just keep the clay warm and keep it moving. Frozen clay doesn't work. :lol I would wash it right after you clay it. It makes a mess if it dries on there. You wouldn't wash your car and then rinse it off the next day, would you? The clay residue and the streaks from the QD are going to be a big pain to clean off the next day. At least, they'll be a bigger pain than if you did it right after you clay. I'd wash it right after you clay. At least QD it or something to get the mess off.

I'd bring the clay inside for a while so it is more maliable. Other than that, go for it. The Clay Magic system is terrific!

BTW, among the reasons your new car is gritty feeling can be from transporting (rail dust) or from being washed on the lot and allowed to air dry. With all the wind we've had the past month or so in the DFW area, there is a lot of crap being blown about and can settle on a still wet car.

You might wanna try to use your car wash soap as a lube for the clay while you are washing your car. It will save you some time. Just wash a panel, clay, and wipe again.

Thanks for the feedback. Nevertheless, I have decided to turn the job over to a Pro, so I have Scottwax coming over on Sunday afternoon to do my car:bounce. I have always appreciated his posts on this forum and admired the results he achieves. Hopefully, will be able to get a pic so everyone can see how it turns out. Car is silver gray metallic; boy I love this color.

Scottwax came over Sunday and did a terrific job, and I learned alot by watching him work. Clay took away all the surface imperfections. Followed up with AIO and SG, and yes the wipe on wipe off approach does seem to work for SG.

For anyone in the DFW Metroplex, I highly recommend Scottwax, he's a real professional and a very nice guy. He did take some pics of the car, so hopefully he can post when he gets them developed.

D/FW M5- Just wanted to give you a :xyxthumbs for having Scottwax do your car. As you said, there's a lot to be learned by watching a pro. I'm sure not surprised that you're pleased with the results.
