old member with rotoary questions

hello all....i have been away from here for quite some time ...but i am starting to feel the autopian bug again :)....... anyway i already own a 7424 with a few white yellow and orange pads. the white and yellow are the convex type, where the orange is flat.

i have the opoturnity to purchase two used makita 9227c....one is $60 the other is $80...they both have orange cords (not oem?) the cheaper on has the bail type handle...the more expensive one has the crew in pc 7424 type. but other then this they seem to be in great shape...come with 10 day refund promise if stop working

my question is should i bite? what backing plate do i need and what pads ? and whats up with the new pads witht eh small circular recess in them

thanks fellas

Sounds like a good deal to me. I have tried all the major rotary buffers out there and like the Makita best for it's fit, feel, and positioning of the speed dial (which I'm constantly playing with while under way). They last forever...but I can say I had to fix and replace the cord several times. A brand new cord installed runs $40. I don't like using any of the handles and find I have the best control grabbing onto the machine bare-handed. 6" backing plate from any of the suppliers supported on this site should suffice. You want flad, 6.5" pads...the Lake Country CCS pads are well made (the white are good for beginners, as they are closed cell foam which limits any splatter you may get). The circular recess dimples are a gimmic...I could do without them, but they don't hurt either.
