Ok to use Menzerna FPII with Orange Pad?

Hi guys.

I bought a kit from CMA and it came with a couple of pads. The most aggressive being an orange pad. I detailed a beater last night starting with some FPII with a white pad, which got out about 80% of the swirls and scratches. I tried going over it again several times, but each time it barely got better.

CMA suggests that I only use IP with the orange pad. I was wondering if it would be ok to use FPII with my orange pad to try and get out the left over swirls?

Thanks.

ive never tried that but i dont see why not, I would go orange/IP then white/fpII. Im guessing your using a pc right? I used these in the same order but with a rotory, w/ the pc you will have somewhat similar results. I also use IP w/ the megs orange pad and it works great as well.

FPII isnt going to take out any more swirls if you use it w/ the orange pad i would think it would mar the surface some more. Give it a try and tell us what happens.

FP II is a final polish. It's really not made to be a swirl remover. It's job is to restore gloss and remove compounding haze from a more aggresive polish. It doesn't make sense to use it with a cutting pad (orange) IMO. If you want to step up a level of aggressiveness to remove the swirls that FP II can't try IP on the white polishing pad. If that doesn't do it I would go IP and the orange pad.

FWIW, I only use FP as the final polishing step to burnish the paint to its highest possible gloss before applying any finish.

I'm curious about the results as well. I think it'll remove fine scratches with an orange pad due to the extra pressure (from the pad).

I find that the differences between cutting, polishing, and finishing pads is the firmness of the foam - I think they have the same cell/pore size.

I agree what stevet said. :up I have never tried FPII with anything other than a Polishing pad. FPII, I find doesnt do jack for swirls with the PC in my expierence. Everyone's results differs though. Maybe FPII and a polishing pad via Rotary may yield better swirl removing results than I have had with PC. I cant wait to get my rotary this April! :)
