oil filter

To be on the safe side I'd always use an OE filter only on a car under warranty. Just one less thing for the dealer to count against you if an issue develops. I've read many regard the premium brands: Mobil 1 , K&N, Amsoil, etc to be very good due to several construction features and quality filtering media

Sounds like very good advice. You really can't go wrong using an original equipment replacement oil filter.

I've always been a fan of either WIX (who make many of the premium filters out there, as well as a good portion of the OE filters), or the Purolator Pure 1. For some interesting reading on the subject, check out theis page: http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/

This guy cut open a large aray of filters from many manufacturers and the general consensus is that NEARLY all filters are either made by Champion, Allied Signal, or WIX (mostly Champion), but there are a lot of minor enhancements to each line that can make a big difference (Anti-drainback valves, etc.).

Another good site for everyone to check out is filter1.com

These guys sell WIX filters at serious wholsale discounts with free shipping if you buy at least six filters (don't all have to be the same part #). You can get a WIX filter for about $3 which would have cost $6-7 at your local NAPA or CARQUEST (WIX makes both of their house brands. Anyhow I'm sure that's more than anyone wanted to know about filters, but I thought it was interesting to learn about.

I was a long time Fram user until I learned how cheap they had become. Although I've never experienced a problem with them, a couple of friends have and it's not worth risking an engine. I now use WIX.

I stick with purorlator pure 1 since Nissan dropped the filter that was supposed to run on its sports cars.

Would do mobile 1 or K&N, but they're too expensive for 3000 mile oil changes. Pure 1 costs about $5-6

I have a '96 3.2TL and I found out that Purolator doesn't produce a PureOne oil filter for my car so I buy their Premium one, which is a step down from PureOne. What other filters that matches the PureOne??

I loved Motorcraft when I have my Explorer but they don't make one for my Acura. :(

WIX would be the next best thing in my opinion (about equal in quality, but WIX has a slightly beefier drainback valve). K&N is a slight step up in quality, but a HUGE step up in price. $13 compared to $3-5 for WIX.

If fitting a non OE filter on a car under warranty ( And I agree, some aftermarkets are better) it might be a good idea to do a "switcho changeo" ;) and put on an OE if it needs a dealer service just so they don't give you the business about not having one.

Either Napa or Carquest sells WIX under their house brand. However you can get them for about half that much if you are willing to buy 6 at a time from filters1.com

After spending quite some time on bobistheoilguy.com I decided to go with the Wal-Mart SuperTech filter and Motorcraft 5w-30 syn blend oil(1.42/qt!!!) Also that oil is a GL-4 rated oil supposedly giving better gas mileage and engine cleaning. This summer I will run Chevron 10w30. I also like the Pure One filters. When they go on sale at Meijer here I usually get one or two.
