oil based QD spray

Hi,

I use speed shine (griots) as a qd spray. Its has pretty good cleaning ability but it seems heavily oil based. The advantage seems to be its really slick and shouldn't scratch if used properly, but taking it off is a pain.

There always seems to be a bit of oily residue and sometimes it hazes up a bit. I can't buff too agresively, that would defeat the purpose really, and introduce scratches i think. One solution is to spray some distilled water after the initial wipes and then take off the remaining QD spray, but then its not really 'quick' anymore.

Another problem is any over spray on plastic and windows will dry up and leave very visible residue.

Can anyone recommened a QD spray that doesn't require alot of buffing to remove, perhaps water based instead of oil? I want to get something thats truly and spray and (gentle) wipe off product that isn't going to haze up and mess up trim and windows with overspray. Also, doesn't necessarily need to have wax in it, just something thats a pure cleaner that won't strip wax and is safe on all surfaces.

Let me be the first to recommend Clearkote Quik Shine. It's not thick at all, it is very easy to use, it doesn't streak over wax or sealant and it always leaves a great finish. It's a no frills attatched QD and it's one of my (and the forums) favorites.

Having said that, I find Griot's Speed Shine super easy to use and I either use it or Clearkote Quik Shine to clean up any streaking I may get with other QDs.

One of MY personal favorites is Adam's Detail Spray... if for any reason Quik Shine does not appeal to you, I'd recommend looking in to it. I use more of it than any other because I use it on a wet car after washing to aid in drying.

guess i shoulnd't call it 'oil based' ... it does seem to contain quite a bit though

will look into the other products .. thanks for the suggestions

i think the reason why im getting residue/haze is i might be using too much product.

i also used the griot's finest sprayer ... it sort of spurts out blobs of the product rather than a finer mist. to cover an area evenly w/out over spray is really difficult, at least for me.

perhaps there is a better method or better sprayer to disperse the product

I just use about a half a pull of the trigger for each panel (one door, half the hood, half the roof, etc.) and then buff immediately and haven't had any problems. The only problem I have is them having the nerve to charge $2.99 for their "finest sprayer" which is nothing more than the same sprayer you can get on 32 oz. bottles at Target or any other store.

I'm definitely using too much product. I've probably used 2 full sprays for each panel. i tried again on my car, and now it seems to work quite well.

I agree, charging for that sprayer isn't right. I had the chance to visit their store on a trip to seattle and buy some stuff without shipping/taxes. they mentioned they are considering selling their products in stores in which case costs would drop, but time will tell i guess.
